welp, that's been another year! What a terrible year this was. Let's see just how badly I hosed it, again.

Venomous posted:

By this time next year, the following will be the champions and tournament winners of these major companies:

WWE:

WWE Champion: Omos

Well, that worked out. Great start. I haven't heard head nor tail of Omos for ages now. Apparently he's now squashing Johnny Gargano on Raw, which is just as good as a top belt run.

Venomous posted:

Universal Champion: Roman Reigns

There's my freebie.

Venomous posted:

Intercontinental Champion: WALTER

Gunther now. Still the same person, so gently caress it, that's a point to me.

Venomous posted:

US Champion: Joe Gacy

Like Omos, I have no idea what Joe Gacy is doing now. Probably doing gently caress-all in NXT like before.

To be fair, I wrote this when Vince was booking NXT, and I thought he'd still be in power at this point. Funny how these things work out.

Venomous posted:

Raw Tag Team Champions: Edge and uhhhh Sheamus

Somehow I didn't see the Usos coming.

Venomous posted:

Smackdown Tag Team Champions: The New Day

Likewise. Anyway, hope Big E's doing okay. :smith:

Venomous posted:

Raw Women's Champion: Becky Lynch

Eh, fair dos, Bianca deserves it a lot more, probably.

Venomous posted:

Smackdown Women's Champion: Ronda Rousey

oh hey I'm right. I hate it.

Venomous posted:

Women's Tag Team Champions: (deactivated lmao)

If Vince were still in power they would absolutely be deactivated and I stand by that

Venomous posted:

NXT Champion: Bron Breakker

I mean, Dolph Ziggler nearly bollocksed it up, but yeah, that's right.

Venomous posted:

NXT NA Champion: Someone who hasn't started with NXT yet who's name I can't even guess

I mean, it could have easily been Oro Mensah in that ladder match. Anyway, I never would have guessed Wes Lee, and that means I'm obviously wrong, but yeah, good on him.

Venomous posted:

NXT Tag Team Champions: uhhh the Creed Brothers

Nearly. Guess they weren't as good as Pretty Deadly.

Venomous posted:

NXT Women's Champion: Lash Legend

This time last year, Lash Legend was one of the worst wrestlers in the company. I don't know if she still is, but either way, she hasn't even challenged Mandy Rose for the belt.

Venomous posted:

NXT Women's Tag Team Champions: (deactivated lmao)

Again, Vince would have deactivated it.

Venomous posted:

Cruiserweight Champion: (deactivated lmao)

Oh hey, I'm right. One of the last good things Vince did, gently caress weight divisions in professional wrestling

Venomous posted:

NXT UK Champion: Is NXT UK really going to be around this time next year? Let's say uhhhh Kenny Williams, I like him a lot

not only is it dead, but Kenny Williams has now been released from the company! Hope he's doing well outside the Fed tbh

Venomous posted:

NXT UK Tag Team Champions: Symbiosis

I forget who Symbiosis were. *checks notes* Ah. Anyway, lmao

Venomous posted:

NXT UK Heritage Cup Champion: idk, Eddie Dennis?

Apparently this is the only NXT UK title that's still active. God knows what it's going to be like on NXT Europe (blurghhhh). Anyway, I'm wrong, obviously, and really idgaf about Eddie Dennis since he threw the UK scene under the bus by scouting most of its top talent for NXT UK, so he can go gently caress himself forever

Venomous posted:

NXT UK Women's Champion: Nina Samuels

I'd failed to notice that Nina Samuels was mainly an occasional jobber in NXT UK. Then again, I didn't care about NXT UK at all

also, lmao that I didn't think they'd shut down NXT UK

Venomous posted:

(at least the Fed will have fewer titles this time next year than they do now. Still too many tho)

This, of course, won't be the case next year, when NXT Europe gives us another set of belts to be wrong about.

Venomous posted:

Royal Rumble winner: Brock Lesnar

yyyyyyyep.

Venomous posted:

Women's Royal Rumble winner: Bayley

God, I wish

Venomous posted:

Money In The Bank winner: Omos

Could've been. Wasn't. Again, I'm just glad that he's settling into his current role of squashing Johnny Gargano on Raw.

Venomous posted:

Women's Money In The Bank winner: Becky Lynch

pfffft.

Venomous posted:

AEW:

AEW Champion: MJF

yep.

Venomous posted:

AEW TNT Champion: Danhausen

I genuinely think Danhausen should beat Joe. idgaf what any of you think, they should do it. Danhausen is one of the most over wrestlers in the company rn, and I'm glad I was right to think he'd come to AEW.

Venomous posted:

AEW TBS Champion: Jamie Hayter

lmao @ thinking Jade was losing THIS early

Venomous posted:

FTW Champion: HOOK

Good.

Venomous posted:

AEW Women's Champion: Thunder Rosa

Two weeks ago I would have been correct. Oh well.

Venomous posted:

AEW Tag Team Champions: Santana and Ortiz

Santana isn't even in AEW anymore lmaoooo. Anyway, the Acclaimed deserve it rn

Venomous posted:

NJPW:

IWGP Heavyweight Champion: Kazuchika Okada

Even if I said that I actually meant the WHC, I would still be wrong. That's what I get for trusting Okada. Hope Jay beats him at the Tokyo Dome.

Venomous posted:

IWGP Intercontinental Champion: Tetsuya Naito

lol. lmao.

Venomous posted:

IWGP US Champion: Bryan Danielson

ah yes, this is now Billy Brexit's belt. Hope Danielson does, in fact, beat him for it in the next year, because Kenny sure as poo poo isn't winning.

Venomous posted:

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion: Hiromu Takahashi

I have absolutely nothing to say here.

Venomous posted:

IWGP Tag Team Champions: Gallows and Anderson

thankfully, I was wrong, and the real top guys are holding the belts now.

Venomous posted:

IWGP KOPW Champion 2022: Toru Yano

Even though Toru Yano is the greatest wrestler in the world, I could not be happier that I'm wrong.

Venomous posted:

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions: SHO and Dick Togo

well, I guess this is better, but TJP still loving sucks poo poo

Venomous posted:

NEVER Openweight Champion: The Great O-Khan

oh, Christ, I really wish they'd belted him up.

Venomous posted:

Strong Openweight Champion: JONAH

This is fine. Fred Rosser is cool.

Venomous posted:

NEVER 6-Man Champions: I feel like they'd throw us an AEW-shaped curveball going into Wrestle Kingdom, so let's say Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, and Sammy Guevara

ahahahaha

Venomous posted:

Best of the Super Juniors winner: SHO

thankfully, hell no

Venomous posted:

G1 Climax winner: Will Ospreay
(Will he hold it to the Tokyo Dome?: Yes)

Nearly.

Venomous posted:

KOPW Provisional Champion 4-Way Winner: Chase Owens

I'm really not sure why I made a prediction for this over the past few years

Venomous posted:

Young Lion Cup winner: Well, they didn't do one in 2021, but if they do one in 2022, it's probably Yuto Nakashima

likewise, it was a bit foolish to predict this

Venomous posted:

Super J-Cup 2022 winner: Kidd Bandit

I really don't know what I was thinking

Venomous posted:

Super Junior Tag League winners: Ryusuke Taguchi and Master Wato

Not even in the drat tournament together, so no

Venomous posted:

World Tag League winners: Dangerous Tekkers

I mean, it seemed reasonable at the time

Venomous posted:

AJPW:

Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion: Kento Miyahara

yep

Venomous posted:

World Tag Team Champions: Jake Lee and Hokuto Omori

they're not even in the Tag League together lmao

Venomous posted:

World Junior Heavyweight Champion: Jun Kasai

once again, I really don't know what I was thinking

Venomous posted:

All Asia Tag Team Champions: isdgaf El Lindaman and T-Hawk

I mean, they did hold the belts in the past year,

Venomous posted:

Gaora TV Champion: Masanobu Fuchi

To his credit, he is still wrestling. Probably the best decision not to put a belt on him.

Venomous posted:

AJPW TV 6-Man Tag Team Champions: *spins the wheel, again* Suwama, Akira, and Shigehiro Irie

I mean, the actual champs are just as random

Venomous posted:

Champion Carnival winner: Shotaro Ashino

nah

Venomous posted:

Jr. Battle of Glory winner: Hikaru Sato

Well, I thought he'd at least make the finals,

Venomous posted:

Jr. Tag Battle of Glory winner: Izanagi and Masashi Takeda

idk if I was predicting the 2021 winner or what, but if so, considering they lost in the first round, that's a no

Venomous posted:

Royal Road Tournament winner: Kento Miyahara

well, that's correct at least.

Venomous posted:

Nope! (I know nothing about Dante Leon. Any good?)

Venomous posted:

GHC National Champion: Go Shiozaki

I have no regrets in predicting this and I am glad that the current champ is who he is

Venomous posted:

GHC Tag Team Champions: Kazunari Murakami and Kazuyuki Fujita

Murakami hasn't wrestled all year. Hope he's okay. :ohdear:

Venomous posted:

GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions: uhhhhh NOSAWA Rongai and Eita

oh, NOW Kotoge is a champion

Venomous posted:

Global Tag League winner: Masato Tanaka and Naomichi Marufuji
Global Junior Heavyweight Tag League winners: HAYATA and Yoshinari Ogawa, if it happens
Global Junior Heavyweight League winner: Hajime Ohara? To be perfectly honest I haven't been following NOAH's juniors at all this year and it shows lmao. Anyway they didn't have either Global Junior League in 2021 so idk if they'll do any in 2022 lmaooooooo

none of these happened, -3 to me then

Venomous posted:

N1 Victory Winner: Kaito Kiyomiya

well, at least I got that one right

and now for the ones that don't count

Venomous posted:

additionally:

-Vince will live through 2022, because Vince will never die

yep, tho I didn't think he'd step down. From what I'm hearing, the Fed's booking hasn't really gotten better either, because Hunter is a hack lmao

Venomous posted:

-There will be no fewer than 50 releases from WWE in the next year, of whom at least 3 are active upper midcard to main event wrestlers

56 at the time of writing, but the only really big active names in the list were Cesaro and Samoa Joe. Paige doesn't count, of course.

Venomous posted:

-Kazuchika Okada will successfully defend the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Kenny Omega at King Of Pro Wrestling, assuming Kenny's all healed up by then

oh, how little I knew

Venomous posted:

-Blood & Guts will be the Inner Circle vs. the SuperKliq and reDRagon

tbh I still want to see the Elite in a B&G match at some point, especially if they're bolstered by Cole and O'Reilly. lmao @ Bobby Fish tho

Venomous posted:

-NJPW will probably regain much of the buzz it lost this year, not least because Okada is surely going to retire that stupid loving world championship and bring back the Heavyweight Championship and the Intercontinental Championship

well, I guess it has a bit of its buzz back now, but again, I really shouldn't put my trust in Okada for anything, because Okada is a capitalist and a corporate stooge.

So overall, that's 12/67 and 81% wrong. Somehow I'm getting better at this.

To be honest, I'm probably not going to do another prediction for next year. I don't really have the spoons to follow anything other than AEW with any regularity, and I especially don't have the spoons to predict stuff for Japanese promotions. I guess I could do one for just the Fed, AEW, and ROH, but that wouldn't be the same. idk.

actually, gently caress it, when the next thread opens, let's do one more, same promotions (and ROH I guess), and I'll see how I feel this time next year.

Game runs until end of the year, anything can happen yet!

Well, apart from most of those predictions!

Also I kinda forgot how early I make these threads. Will whip up next year’s thread this week.

Kosmo Gallion
Sep 13, 2013
Bron Breakker will win the NXT championship and vacate it when he's called up to the main roster.

Half correct, but Bron vacating it doesn't look likely.

Miro will unseat Hangman Adam Page to win the title. Before losing to Miro, Page will have successful defences against MJF, PAC, CM Punk and Andrade.

Very wrong. Miro has hardly appeared in 2022 and the only one of those guys Hangman wrestled was Punk, and he lost.

There will be an Elite Civil War storyline with Adam Cole playing Starscream and trying to take over the group.

It was going this way until injuries and Bobby Fish being a doofus.

The ROH title will be defended on Dynamite or Rampage.

Has happened many times.

Santana and Ortiz will finally win the tag titles in the best match of the year against the Lucha Bros. Eddie Kingston will play a small part in the storyline.

Nope and it doesn't look likely that they'll ever win the titles or team together in AEW again.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will sign with AEW. I guess half of this has been nixed already.

Nope, thanks to the dump truck of cash WWE left outside their houses.

MJF will fail again to capture the AEW World title so will target Sammy Guevara Cody Rhodes and win the TNT title instead. MJF will be heavily cheered against loser Cody.

Nope nope nope.

Bret Hart will appear on AEW TV to present the trophy to the winners of the Owen Hart tournament: Jungle Boy and Serena Deeb.

Martha Hart instead appeared to award Cole and Baker their titles.

Mick Foley will appear in AEW. At first for a one off, then return for a storyline with Jon Moxley. Foley will not wrestle. Guardian of tradition Cody Rhodes will wrestle Jon Moxley to defend Foley's honor.

Nope, Cody left and Foley has yet to appear.

Naito will appear and team up with/mentor Andrade.

There was a possibility that this could have happened at Forbidden Door but was nixed due to AAA/CMLL drama.

Walter will suck rear end in Rainbow NXT but will stick it out for the money. He won't be released and turn up as a Monster of the Week for Hangman Page. Sadly.

Renamed Gunther, he's stuck it out in WWE. Sadly.

Roman Reigns will lose the title to Brock at Day 1 and regain it at WrestleMania. Roman will vacate the Universal championship before he loses it, but possibly not in 2022.

Nope. Roman did beat Brock at WrestleMania though.

A wrestler from New Japan, Impact, ROH, and NOAH will appear on Dynamite or Rampage.

Plenty of New Japan and ROH guys appeared on Dynamite and W Morrissey was an Impact guy when he lost to Wardlow. Keiji Muto appeared on Rampage but didn't wrestle.

Brock Anderson, Brian Pillman, Griff Garrison and several generation stars will tease forming a stable but it won't happen.

Nope

Daniel Bryan will use The Final Countdown as an entrance theme on a Dynamite special or PPV.

I don't think this happened.

Ilja Dragunov will have more stars than anybody else in 2022 according to Dave. There will be one NXT UK match which rivals the best AEW match of the year.

lol

CM Punk and Daniel Bryan will not wrestle a singles match against eachother in 2022. When they do, it'll be a retirement match and Punk will win.

They had zero on-screen interaction as far as I know.

Joey Janela and Sonny Kiss will appear on Dynamite or Rampage as a team.

Nope, Janela is gone from AEW.

Prediction #1 - I will watch less wrestling in 2022 than I watched in 2021. Now I don't have a total hours watched (fortunately) but I've watched 462 shows this year probably enough time to watch another 10-14 before the year ends. Or 2,853 individual matches. So I'm predicting I pick & choose & watch way less full shows with dull undercards that only have 1 match I want to see.
Well, that was hilariously wrong. I did watch fewer shows from start to finish, I did pick & choose, but uhhhh, I'm currently at 720 shows & I reckon before 2022 is out I could hit another 80. I'm also currently at 3,674 individual matches. Which is a lot. Too much probably. I will definitely try to cut down in 2023, though I've no idea how. I mean I won't have 5 full months of AEW, which'll knock 50 odd shows off my total & probably a few hundred matches, & I think I'll just completely give up on US indie stuff unless it's getting rave reviews & I'll still be hitting 3,000 matches.

forkboy84 posted:

Prediction #2 - According to the only metric that matters (my opinion), Shingo Takagi will be Wrestler of the Year again.
Nah, Shingo had 2 ***** & 5 ****¾ matches last year, this year there's 3 at ****¾. There's plenty of great stuff, but he's just not been on the top of the card like last year. Instead, 2022 has been the year of Kento Miyahara. Have I mentioned that? Actually I don't think Shingo would be in my top 25 Wrestlers of the Year based on match quality. Despite being maybe my favourite wrestler, or certainly a top 5.

forkboy84 posted:

Prediction #3 - NOSAWA, Gedo/Togo & TAJIRI will continue to battle it out for most infuriating booker of a promotion I watch.
Oddly, no. NOSAWA got removed as head booker in NOAH, Gedo/Togo really seemed to get things going with New Japan this year, & TAJIRI/Ishikawa in All Japan are probably the most infuriating but only because they manage to do somethings really well & then they bring back Voodoo Murders, & they have all the other factions split up for no real reason. So I guess AJPW are winning this category but it's not so bad that AJPW isn't still the company I'm most excited to watch week to week.

Yeah nah

-G1 Winner: KENTA

No idea, didn't watch

-Motherfucking Shibata will wrestle in full gear and wreck some fool. (E: Okay, this has been announced as of this edit, but I made the prediction before that)

The Wrestler

-WWE will release Shinsuke Nakamura

Should have put Vince McMahon

-Arn makes the news for shooting someone with his Glock. (In self-defense, of course)

OK no

-Ishii continues being the perfect wrestler

Ayup

-Miyu Yamashita makes an appearance in AEW and kicks rear end.

Well, she was there

-People will think Miyu sucks because she delivers a sub-par mic-shot.

I guess something like that happened

-Kevin Steen wins the Owen. Well poo poo. Probably not. WWE will still release Steen even though he just signed a new contract.

Somehow this did not come to pass

-Hook doesn't wrestle a single match.

That's Hook, right there.

-WWE will continue to decline.

Mmmh. I guess with Vinnie Mac gone it's probably getting better

-Vince McMahon is an immortal Lich

He's not dead so I'll take it

-AEW Dynamite is upgraded to two women's matches per show and it's good.

Uhhh, I haven't watched in a couple weeks, so

-Leyla Hirsch rules. This isn't a prediction. I just wanted to say it.

rip

-Excalibur will call a Sit-out Scoop Slam a Michinoku Driver again. I may or may not have a meltdown over it (again).

I don't think I had a meltdown. I should have just forced it.

-Roman Reigns will gain two more nicknames

Any WWE watchers who could tell me?

-DPW will somehow actually be successful. I guess as a metric here we'll say if they are still around by the end of next year and show some growth it counts.

Yup

-Hangman's reign as the AEW champ will have two successful defenses.

Glad I was wrong.

-ROH actually does run shows again, like they said they would. Many people seem to be sure they won't. Which is why I'm putting this here.

Hahaha, suck it haters

Can't tell yet

-Excalibur will call a Sit-out Scoop Slam a Michinoku Driver again. I may or may not have a meltdown over it (again).

I don't think I had a meltdown. I should have just forced it.

Technically Kenny Omega is wrestling in New Japan in 2023. And as for jumpstarting Kenny/Kota? Nah. Kota is done with New Japan it would seem, that bridge is burnt. His contract should be up in January according to reports (it's wrestling reporting so there's a good chance it's not true...)

Isn't the sit out scoop slam basically a Michinoku Driver II?

Give it to whoever runs DDT for continuing to book Pheromones

I would, but I've long since given up watching anything on a DDT show before Pheromones are done so it is as if they no longer exist to me. It is nice (shame about the waste of Iino though)

No. A scoop slam is taken on your back. A Michinoku Driver is a DRIVER that means you land on your loving head!!!!!!!! All these wrestlers just take it wrong.

Ibushi himself said his deal was up in two months at the end of November (I guess the way he wrote it was closer to “two mo…” but yeah). New Japan contracts generally do expire at the end of January.

Moxley will come back and continue to kick rear end.

CM Punk will not win the World Heavyweight Championship but he will turn heel.

Evil Uno and Stu Greyson will win the tag titles.

Thunder Rosa beats Britt at Revolution for the Women’s championship.

PAC beats Cody for the TNT Title. This is during Cody’s fourth reign sometime in the fall.

Okada shows up on AEW programming.

Hangman holds the championship until at least Winter is Coming 2022.

My Best Predictions posted:

Either Edge and Christian or the Hardys will reunite in AEW for a final tag team run.

Jericho will do something on WWE programming while still remaining a member of AEW. I'm thinking a Hall of Fame appearance or something similar.

HHH will not be seen on WWE TV and there will even be some speculation that he's been removed from all backstage roles. Nothing will ever be completely clear, though.

I mean, the Hardys DID reunite and it MIGHT be their final tag team run at this rate. It just went terribly, terribly wrong at the end there.

Jericho did film that thank you video to Cena this past summer.

HHH officially retired from wrestling in March of 2022, then kind of disappeared. He'd previously been removed from NXT back at the end of 2021, at which point he kinda did nothing at all for months. I remember a lot of online speculation that he was having major health problems or something.

Obviously Vince leaving totally changed that, but prior to that retirement it felt like HHH was GONE from WWE.

My Worst Predictions posted:

The Owen Hart tournament in AEW will be won by either John Silver or Lee Moriarty.

Roman Reigns will lose the title to Brock Lesnar, probably at Mania.

Neither John nor Lee were even in the qualifying matches and Adam Cole ended up winning the men's tourney.

Never assume Roman will lose a title.

this glorious monument

Ok let's see:

~TV ratings will not fluctuate radically from the norm.
Well WWE ratings hit a bump after HHH took over so I guess this one isn't true.

~A disappointing number of prominent WWE superstars will re-sign with WWE.
I'm actually not sure which superstars had their contracts come up this year. But Cody going back plus Owens and Zayn re-signing, Braun going back (disappointing because his narrative should have included a happy ending) and Regal leaving and going back should qualify this as a 'yes'.

~AEW will get at most, one more big get from the fed, not counting Keith Lee if they get him.
So Saraya, Lee and is there somebody I'm brainfarting on?

~Roman Reigns will not lose the WWE title (or whichever one he has I don't care) this year.
Windmill slam dunk.

~Jungle Boy will win either the TNT title or Tag Titles.
Objectively correct.

~MJF will retain the Dynamite Diamond ring yet again.
I guess we'll find out on Wednesday.

~Jade Cargill will be the inaugural TBS champion.
This is understating it.

~The Bunny and Penelope Ford will be involved in more televised segments and matches than the entire joshi roster combined.
Derailed because of injuries and Shida being used regularly. take Shida out of the equation and it's B&P absolutely.

~Britt Baker will hold the AEW Women's title past Revolution.
She did.
