Feels like "Random" stuff all draws from the same limited well. Horse masks, rainbows, unicorns, llamas etc. I guess it's marketable. Fortnite is pretty random by way of having everything ever in it.

The horse mask might have been one of the things SA got the jump on before the rest of society ran it into the ground. I remember getting one in '08 and wearing it to some Halloween parties. It was great, you'd be stepping on so many peoples' feet and they'd turn around wanting to punch you but be completely disarmed and bewildered by the mask. Also it scared the poo poo out of my cat.

A thing no one seems to want to admit is that monkeycheese immediately became brutally and tediously repetitive, effectively literally the same joke over and over repeated at higher pitch and volume until it becomes incoherent screeching. Very few people even tried to do it well, let alone succeeded, and about all of those were capable of being funny in other ways that stood out.

Like Ren and Stimpy, one of those shows that pushed Nick's censorship. There's a running gag that involves placing a single frame of bloody Gir randomly in episodes. Nickelodeon forbidded them from showing Gir covered in blood, so they just snuck him in on random frames in the show. You can slow it down on the DVD and see them in there. Of course Nick now makes boat loads of money off continued rerun and francise tie ins to this day. I watched the Invade Zim movie on Netflix and it was better than I expected and I had already heard good things but I found some of it the monkey cheesiest parts to be grating and felt like narrative and comedic hiccups in the movie.
