Endwalker is good, imo.

I'm really curious about (MSQ end) where it goes from here, though. Like literally what even the first patch is gonna be. Maybe just touring around to see what each of the Scions are up to? But that would be weird since we just said goodbye. I can't wait to find out!

So I haven't been doing the new stuff yet but in general the older stuff seems a bit easier after the squish. I'm seeing bosses die earlier than I ever used to last patch. I don't know if it's the squish, job changes, or reapers and sages being OP at lower levels.

Also I can't decide on a job to play through EW yet. I'll probably go with SMN though PLD, NIN, AST, and MCH are close behind.

Weirdly, I've noticed that alliance raids are harder, while 4-man dungeons are easier. I ran Void Ark earlier, and saw phases of those bosses I've never seen before.

I guess you could chalk that up to the high population of reapers who have no idea what they're doing, though :v:

I loved that the boss fight felt so classically Final Fantasy despite being an original encounter too. Felt just like fighting Zeromus, Exdeath, Safer Sephiroth, etc. while still feeling perfectly fit to FF14. Truly stellar design.

Yeah, the final boss is incredible. I love the absolute audacity of having the screen go completely black for five whole seconds. It really gives you that sinking "did we just wipe?" feeling right before they most triumphant part of the whole fight. Also, the planet collision mechanic was really cool, and satisfying to figure out.

Slightly disappointed that there wasn’t even the chance to at least try to tell Zenos to gently caress off after the final boss.

You can, (MSQ ending)saying "well I'm just going to kill you" is telling him to gently caress off. Even if you don't accept his description of the WoL, it still makes sense to get rid of him once and for all. You know he's not going to stop hurting people.

There's even a difference in his dialog, he says "Acceptance, finally!" and looks genuinely happy if you say he might be right about you.

For those that have finished the MSQ I have a couple of questions I'd love to pose.

What is your favorite new dungeon?
What is your favorite new map?

For Myself (Various Large Spoilers All Across The Expansion, including towards the end)

Dungeon: Ktisis Hyperboreia is gorgeous and I'm still listening to the music from there on repeat. I think some other dungeons probably have more interesting fights & mechanics but this one felt special. Doing it with Trusts was an A+ experience.
Map: This one is harder. I love Thavnair & Radz-at-Han for being gorgeous and interesting and also just because I'm a Dancer main. But objectively I think either Elpis or Ultima Thule probably win. Both are extremely gorgeous with a lot of amazing plot beats and great music.

Dungeon: The Aitiascope, I love the design of it, and I'm a sucker for characters coming back in different forms. Especially the fight with Rhitatyn, not only is it cool to see him finally get a proper fight, but it has really neat mechanics! Also the way Shiva comes in to save you with a pillar of ice in the final fight is just really fantastic, great way to send off these characters one final time.

Area: Garlemald. They really nailed the design of this place, I love the decrepit train stations and buildings, though I kind of wish the city were a little less destroyed, as it was in the benchmark. It has a lot of nice little touches that I love, like the cute little cars and the way the buildings are all twisted together. Reminds me a lot of Da'at in SMTV.

I do feel like Endwalker is two expansions squeezed together, and that’s not necessarily a detriment (in fact I really like Endwalker, even if I think Shadowbringers was the better story). But I can see how those two separate expansions would have worked out and I don’t hate them.

Expansion 1 (spoilers for the first half of Endwalker basically, up to level 85). The Garlemald Campaign, a more focused expansion about pushing our way into Garlemald and ending the tower threat. You’d start at Radz-at-Han and head north through Ilsabard, getting a zone in the Viera homeland and Bozja and so on until you reach Garlemald which goes pretty much the way it does in Endwalker.

Expansion 2 (spoilers for the rest of the story). Dealing with the actual End of Days, Sharlayan gets the main city focus here and you expand the Elpis and Labyrinthos stuff to more meaningfully be about finding a solution to the Endsinger. Lots of call backs, visiting new parts of old zones on our global quest for an answer which would also let you expand out the apocalypse weather stuff, but not necessarily aiming for misery porn.

Yeah, I think it's easy to see how it could be split, but the problem is that you'd have to add in a lot of filler, especially in the patches between expansions. It's much better to just get this whole story in one go, imo. I hope the next expansion is more similar to HW and ShB, where it's more about traveling through a new location and really digging deep into it, but it was really fun to have one that was almost entirely crazy big concepts and callbacks.

I was pretty surprised that SE bothered to make the Reaper 89 hat compatible with viera, and a whole bunch of other stuff you wouldn't expect, like the 83 dungeon gear. I'm more baffled as to why they bothered with some helms but not job specific ones that are extremely iconic like RDM. I'm trying to find some things to use with my glamours but it's weird how inconsistent recently added stuff is. Anyone have any ideas where I can find like, a list of viera compatible headgear?

Here's a list from a couple years ago, doesn't have EW stuff.

The general rule of thumb is that anything pre-Shadowbringers won't be wearable unless it's more of a head accessory than a hat or helmet. So like glasses or a headband or whatever, those are fine, but literally anything that covers the head, even if it covers it completely, can't be worn by viera. Hrothgar can wear full helmets, so I guess it's a matter of the ears, they don't want to handwave folding them down for whatever reason. I was annoyed to see that my bunny boy couldn't wear the elemental armor helmet, even though my hrothgar could.

Newer stuff is kind of a grab-bag. Some things you can wear that you wouldn't expect, like the reaper hat, they seem to be making more of an effort to make stuff that's compatible. YoshiP mentioned working on the issue in the latest live letter, IIRC, it's coming down the pipe along with hrothgals.

I dunno, with as cool as the 83 solo duty was, it was also extremely horrifying. Maybe just because I am trans and the body you are put in, while fully covered, uses male animations, it made it extremely horrifying and such a violation that I kind of hated that it doesn't faction in how you can treat him later on. Probably the single most disturbing thing that happens to your character in this game, and I hate that it's just forgotten.

Well, I think it was more Fandaniel's idea, Zenos doesn't even continue trying to attack using your body when he clearly could. I took it as him being kind of annoyed at the whole thing but going along with it because Fancy Dan was really into it. Part of why he just gives up on trying to make you hate him later on, that was the ultimate way to do it and it still didn't get him what he wanted.

But really, it's just part and parcel with MMO storytelling. The WoL has to be stoic because they can't account for the wide variety of possible reactions, thus all the head nodding and palm punching.

I like paladin.

They're not very exciting mechanically, they pretty much have a set rotation and a couple of nice support skills, but they're really flashy. They get cool animations, especially confiteor and its new combo. They do have the best ability to heroically defeat bosses if the healer dies, since they straight-up have their own healing spell that is pretty powerful. It's easy to keep yourself and a couple DPS up, as long as they're not eating mechanics. Out of all the tanks, they most embody the idea of protecting the whole party at once, not just being a distraction, since they also have passage of arms for big raid-wides or stack markers.

Yeah, I really wish they'd smooth out those animations, it looks so goofy. All three of them constantly get clipped by one another, so your character is just flailing around snapping to different positions, it's like I'm playing LotRO again.

The most recent stuff from Reddit said the queue “rebuilds” every 15 minutes. And if there are more than max people trying to hit the login servers, then it can dump people in queue by mistake.

During the ramps up and down at the start and end of the night, you’re not going to see max people hitting login servers, hence less likely to see a 2002 error.

This is my theory.

This matches my experience, I usually hop in the queue at about 7:30 or 8 PST, wait about an hour and get in without a single error. I had a lot the first week, couldn't play at all in the evening, only in the morning.

Akh Morn and Revelation had their potency doubled, they do 1300 now, and since they just reset the lesser summons there's no reason not to.
