Nashville must be aiming for a (relatively) big money domestic player with this, right?

I hear that there's a prolific striker potentially now available up in Toronto...

I figure both Tajouri-Shradi and Blackmon would've been solid early pieces to build around. It's interesting though, I've been looking back through recent expansion drafts and it's really very rare that expansion draft players see significant playing time, maybe one player per year it seems like. I guess there's a reason why they were left unprotected but it was still surprising to look through the lists and see how few expansion draft players made any impact. Like Austin drafted five players last year, and only one (Jared Stroud) saw much time this year. Kind of makes me wonder why they do it at all

I'm aiming for a couple of SKC away matches next year, though neither of the obvious driveable ones (Minnesota, Dallas, or Colorado) are at particularly convenient times. I have family in Nashville and friends in Montreal, though, and I've always wanted to visit Austin and Atlanta so those are more logical candidates.

Intriguing potential Leon-Seattle rematch in the second round (assuming Seattle doesn't falter in the first round again)

Jeff Carlisle's interview with Don Garber is very interesting. Wish he'd gone in more depth about the gambling thing, the league kind of got lucky that the first player to be found betting on games was a relative role player on a small-market team. We're only like ~3 years into sports gambling being legalized federally and that's already happened, I have to imagine it'll happen again sometime, you have to at least prepare for it and I'm guessing the league's just hoping it won't happen again.

Also interesting to see my graduate school explicitly brought up as the main barrier to a San Diego franchise happening

CBS is an intriguing idea. I've enjoyed the way they've done NWSL matches and USMNT matches in the past few years, and if I'm not mistaken, 2021 was their final year doing college football, which could leave a lot of prime late-season weekend time slots open.

A lot of good young players developed on SPR/SKC II with Paulo though the teams didn't do much winning. I just hope the club supports him financially given how little has been put into the team in the past few years

Hi thread, how good is James Sands
Last year he was consistently highly competent in MLS, to sort of a boring degree. He didn't really bring that to the national team when he got the chance in the Gold Cup, especially in the knockout rounds against Qatar and Jamaica where he was frustratingly mistake-prone. By the end of the season in MLS though I envied what NYC had in Sands, he was very consistent for such a young player in his position.

MLSers called up for USMNT January camp

No friendlies from this camp because the WCQ are so close, hence the friendly vs. Bosnia last month.

Ugh at seeing Jackson Yueill's name.

Good to see DeJuan Jones and Brooks Lennon getting looks in this one. We have so many quality fullback/wingbacks at the moment that they're both far down the list for potential callups but they were both very good in MLS last season

Pulido's out all year, Beric didn't sign with KC, cut Wilson Harris... I believe that leaves us with Khiry Shelton and Khiry Shelton alone at center forward

I might have just been paying poor attention in past offseasons, but there seems to be many more high profile intraleague deals going down this offseason than there have been. Lletget and Acosta both sold in-league, Rusnak going to Seattle as a free agent, Maxime Crepeau might be as well, now these huge price tags attached to Paul Arriola, competing with interest from Club America. I just don't remember it being like this before, maybe that's an artifact of the CBA agreement from last year.

gently caress the timbers and all that, but drat if Valeri isn't a legend in the league.

I'd never seen him play in-person before last year, I'm glad I took the chance to do so when the Timbers came to KC in August last season

Charlotte is gonna be fascinating if nothing else this year. I can't say I've heard an expansion team manager say "We're Screwed" before the season began, kind of refreshing to be honest
