Where's the tubes tag? Did I just miss it? Anyways, what do you think of YouTube getting rid of the dislike count? Has it negatively impacted your life? Just as I expected, when I look up a tutorial or a how-to, there's no way for me to prejudge if it's worth watching or not. IT'S RUINED MY LIFE. Since I'm very addicted and rely on YouTube a lot, it has been a tremendous downgrade to have the dislike count removed. Now I have to waste my time watching the video instead of having a general consensus of its quality. YouTube's reasoning for this, explained by Matt Koval, is because of a supposed issue with collective trolling that sabotages channels with rampant dislikes. Are we supposed to believe this explanation, and see that it's such a problem that they must remove the dislike count, and disregard the utility it serves for letting us know if a video is uninformative or pure clickbait? I quite frankly think this is bullshit! Boycott YouTube!!!!! **still wastes hours a day watching videos about Sega Genesis history on YouTube**  ^^When the dislike counter was still working, and it ironically shows the video was indeed very disliked. I've been speaking to Matt, and he seems to wholeheartedly agree with YouTube's reasoning. My theory is YouTube is doing it because the algorithm told them so. Meaning, less people avoiding watching videos that appear to be bad based on dislikes = more people watching ads = more money.

I have never clicked a like or dislike button in my life and I am currently doing a song on this very topic that I will be spamming on here in January. The only time I have ever seen likes/dislikes mentioned is when people use it for lovely talking points or political points scoring such as YouTube Rewind or Biden videos early in his presidency. In short, the fact I am replying to this topic only emphasises that I have wasted my life.

Now when I see a video with 50 likes I can't tell if it's wildly hated or just not well known but the thing I realized since they removed it is I don't actually give a poo poo about the user metrics of a video. They could probably just replace it with a button that says "engagement", scrap the numbers entirely

I get there’s some workarounds like using the browser or whatever but also with this membership comes YouTube Music which has been my Spotify replacement.

The worst thing is the practical aspect, like when I look up a guy teaching a guitar song the lessons vary in quality so much that I want to easily see if its actually useful to watch or not.

I mostly only ever use Youtube to listen to music but there were always guaranteed to be "What?? 2 dislikes on this song/album? THOSE PHILISTINES!!!" type comments on everything.

it really bummed me out to see dislike spikes whenever any particular channel featured a trans person on any level, so trading that for not being able to brigade blizzard making a mobile diablo game or people who disliked the rewind having to yell about it on twitter rather than click a thumbs down or whatever seems worth it to me.
