I really appreciate that the enemies in James Bond don't respawn when you leave the screen.

I really really like Quarth. Any Quarth heads out there know if there's a better iteration of it? I see it was ported to a few devices.

I tried Quarth today and didn't quite get it. How do I play it? What's the appeal?

Quarth is an amazing game! I felt like it was a little slow early on too but when I discovered you can press up on the dpad to scroll the board down it got much better.

Quarth is pretty cool. Glad for this thread as I otherwise would never have played it. Played through 007 a few years ago, haven't decided whether I will replay it yet, but it is a nice little game. Will definitely try Hammerin' Harry some time this week.

I’m always surprised after not playing gameboy games for a bit just how good they look. The art in Harry is fantastic and so detailed. Why did this game not make it to the US I wonder?

The absolute funniest thing about James Bond 007 is that it literally plays and feels like some executive played a bit of Zelda and told a team to make "one of those" for their franchise. Like, it's hilariously on the nose.

Some enemies you can stun lock doing this. I beat the game last night. While it's a neat idea and I love the music and graphics, I started getting really annoyed around Marrakech. I don't really care for Zelda style games anymore so once levels started getting bigger and maze like I lost interest. Did a bit of Quarth too, that's a fun little puzzle game. Wonder how it is in multiplayer.

ive been playing some gameboy recently. gargoyles quest was my first ever game that i personally owned, its incredible and i love how it uses the gameboy's crackly speaker to create some really violent sounds. when you kill the eye boss, it feels like your gameboy is about to blow up! i will try to play along with you guys a bit. if i had to make a suggestion for a game to consider: gremlins 2 by sunsoft

Harry has been an absolute delight. I've never even heard of the game before this thread. The art is gorgeous. I might communicate this the wrong way so bear with me. The Hammerin Harry graphics look like those mock Game Boy screenshots that look too good to have come from a real Game Boy game. I'm on stage 3 so far and it's been very clever in mixing it up. I wish I had gotten a photo of that first horizontal shooter stage with Harry's arms flailing up if you're not moving the dpad or shooting. And that one boss that shoots bombs was a blast. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest shakes up.

I think the thing with Bond is while it is a solid direction to take it, had it been released in maybe like 93/94ish you could forgive some of the shortcomings. But it dropped in 98. Outside of even the Zelda influence, this style of top-down action adventure thing was well beyond established so it just feels a bit anemic this "late" in the game. Still a neat oddity. May move on to Quarth or Harry, haven't decided yet.

I didn't know bond was that late, I thought it was 93. Why was it a game boy game and not a GBC game if it was that late.

drat hammerin harry does look good, plays well too, i'd never played it before but the controls are immediately clear, game kind of reminds me of felix the cat on the nes in that you gradually upgrade your weapon and with all the variety it has

Always liked the goofy Victorian / Steampunk / Journey to the Moon aesthetic of arcade Quarth. Like here's a cherub powered rocketship shooting rocks in space. I had no idea Hammerin' Harry / Gen the Carpenter was such a long running series - it's a bit like Umihara Kawase - installments in bits over the years Even an anime?! https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=9275 Coffee Jones fucked around with this message at 05:32 on Jan 6, 2022 |

The boss that spits bomb at you at the end of the underwater/sewer/factory stage in Hammerin Harry is absolutely destroying me. Edit: Very glad the continues are 1) infinite and 2) put you back at the boss and not the start of the stage, that's very generous Mode 7 fucked around with this message at 02:26 on Jan 6, 2022 |
