When trying to bring normalcy back to the UK whilst at the same time trying to reduce COVID-19 cases we musn't let perfect be the enemy of good.

This is the uk, our options for government action are Pure Evil or Inhuman Apathy To Human Suffering, perfect and good doesn't come into it

Can't believe we went with "weather presenter" as the gender neutral term when that was right there for the taking

I have always been disappointed in the lack of depictions of the refreshing taste of pepsi cola in your cartoons, your art really suffers from that

A bunch of horrible people who have wasted their money on something stupid all band together to convince each other they have made the right choice by forming a tight knit community of horrible people who have all made the same terrible decision, as whoever has taken their money gets rich for doing nothing

Glad I haven't ever participated in anything like that

As much as gamers do not deserve rights or dignity, the energy used by a video game does at least contribute significantly to a person's happiness, especially compared with the joy-per-joule of using a farm of graphics cards to let a person own a string of numbers claimed by someone or other to be connected to a cartoon monkey

I'm surprised she hasn't claimed that one of the students transitioned later in life to combat the transphobia accusations.

I would love this just for the kind of "supporting trans people" that terfs do. Neville Longbottom decides to call HIMself Natalie Longbottom and wear dresses, but never has the temerity to force anyone to call HIM by his non-biological pronouns, always introduces HIMself as "Natalie, formerly Neville, born with a male penis and possessing male biological characteristics, please call me HIM because that is the scientific truth of my physical form", and never once complains or disagrees when his coworkers at wherever he ended up spend half the day by his side yelling "YOU HAVE A LARGE MALE GAMETE" at him repeatedly because that would be silencing free speech, and in return the kind wizarding society graciously allows him to not have his soul sucked out for spreading dark gender ideology

e: I looked it up and apparently he goes on to teach at Hogwarts. he'd have to give that up, of course, can't be exposing the children to this sort of thing

For a service devised by Amazon of all companies it's incredibly poorly designed and user unfriendly.

my experiences of browsing amazon for anything (as opposed to knowing precisely what you need ahead of time) have been uniformly poo poo, i think we're past the point of "we're so big and unstoppable we don't actually have to care about being usable" by now

imagine if the government was willing or able to regulate business to the extent of breaking up streaming service exclusivity like happened with US cinemas way back. but that would be socialism

oh hey turns out they abandoned even that now, good going usa

Why was it just those four that were put on trial, anyway? Are those the ones the police managed to track down or the ones who were willing to contest it in court or what

Working remotely has shown me just how much taking the odd 5-10 minutes to absent-mindedly stare out a window improves both the bearability of work and actual productivity

Can we get an obnoxious guy with a powerpoint and some hideous diagrams to put this into buzzwordy management-speak so the bosses understand it

I love the bit where people give him examples and he immediately moves the goalposts to children's fantasy, then people give him children's fantasy examples and the posts move again to contemporary fantasy, then people give him examples of that and he apparently goes quiet

[1] Well technically Blair just added "This, but for the internet" to the Malicious Communications Act 1988 which only covered post and phone calls but like I say the scope of the offence is *massively* expanded on the internet with that "...to any other person..." clause, because some people can find "distress and anxiety" in just about anything.

So the law treats a social media post as if the poster has personally sent a phone call to every person in the country? This sounds like a great well thought out piece of legislation
