Decriminalisation is a bullshit approach that solves none of the major issues. Cannabis will still be illegal, the police will still be stopping and searching young people for it, and gangs will still be warring with each other. However, with decriminalisation, it now opens up a new market where bullshit merchants can provide compulsory bullshit courses and make bank.

Blanket decrim personal possession of all drugs worked well in Portugal, which had a big heroin misuse problem and now has less of one. Ended the HIV/Aids epidemic there too.

A blanket decriminalisation is certainly a step in the right direction, rather than this suggested age and postcode limited trial that's being suggested in London, but full legalisation is where it should be at. Adults should have the right to choose which substance they want to take, and be able to go to a superdrug and purchase super drugs from a qualified professional. Decriminalisation is still prohibition, and it still allows a criminal black market to exist.

Courses in what? Lol. Just don't go, certainly don't loving pay. Lying to and disobeying the Man and then disappearing is a cool thing to learn.

Courses in 'Drugs are bad mmmkay?". There's a good chance that such courses will be compulsory to escape it being escalated to a criminal charge or caution. I'm pretty certain such courses are compulsory in Portugal, and that the attendees are required to pay for them.

Re: the Anarchist Cookbook, it's available on UK Amazon in kindle, hardback and paperback forms. That's what I don't get about this book being used to send people to prison for terrorism offences.

I'm reminded about a 'terrorist cell' that was raided in Plymouth 10+ years ago. It was heavily reported about in the media, and iirc they were someone in their early 20's, an 18 year old, and two 16 year olds. Police confiscated terrorist propaganda, terrorist training manuals, weapons - including an AK47, knives and explosives.

The four 'terrorists' were held in police custody for up to a month under the new anti terrorism laws, and the bomb disposal trucks were at the property for days as were forensic police.

The terrorist propaganda and training manuals were in fact mostly political text books for one of the guy's politics degree. There were also political manifestos as well as a copy of the Anarchist Cookbook bought from the local Waterstones. The weapons were a couple of BB guns, and the AK47 was a replica that was screwed to the wall as a work of art. It wasn't even capable of firing caps. And the explosives? They were legally purchased fireworks for bonfire night. Oh, and the knives were literally the knives from the kitchen drawer.

They were eventually released without charge with the eldest staying in police custody for nearly the full 28 days iirc, though their release and innocence wasn't reported about heavily in the press. They were targeted because they were vocal anarchists, and the police and government wanted to send a message to appease the public. The psychological effects for the two 16 year olds were huge...

Re giving up, the covid method worked well for me. It got to the stage where every time I tried to inhale cigarette smoke, I'd end up rolling on the floor gasping to breathe. That was a good enough motivation to make me consider quitting. I used a nicorette spray to get over the short term nicotine cravings, and I can't recommend them enough. They burn, taste horrible and make you want to throw up, so it's almost impossible to transfer a habit onto them.

637 days later, and I'm still cigarette free.

No, it's purely for the nicotine cravings. I use(d) a dynavap cannabis vaporiser for the mouth and hand cravings.

On the subject of music, an old band I used to session with signed a 5 album deal with Sony/Edel back in 94. It was a kiss of death contract, where the record label gives a ton of money to the band to record, but they have to choose from a list of studios/agents/producers etc. Everyone on the list is somehow connected to the parent company.

It's a literal tax write-off, and the label purposefully did a really bad job at mixing and producing the first album. You could barely hear the vocals in some of the tracks. The album had no promotion, no radio airplay and to fulfil their side of the contract, they supplied ONE copy of the CD to each of the main record stores.

The lead singer ended up owing £150,000 to the label, which was a lot of money in 1994 terms, and he still had to fulfil his side of the contact and provide 4 more albums. Each submission was binned on sight, and he was unable to perform under his real name or produce any recordings until the contract was torn up many years later. Each label used to sign up a number of bands each year for this purpose. They probably still do....

I'm amazed that people genuinely believe Labour is salvageable. It isn't. It's hosed.

If Labour did somehow manage to elect another left wing leader, then the same would happen again. The embedded right-wingers in the party would sabotage every move to the point of purposefully losing elections.... EXACTLY LIKE BEFORE.

If Keith somehow won the next GE, then nothing would change. He's already goose-stepping the party down the same path as the Tories.

A new left wing party will also fail, but that's a fault of our FPTP system and our Tory controlled media.

Without proportional representation, an actual written constitution, an elected upper house and an elected head of state, buckle in. We're hosed.
