I am having a bit of hard time knowing that 'll be getting married now without my grandparents. On the other hand, my now fiancee is all about me getting the Cortez Kennedy painting from my mom so that's a plus.

Also it's time for my Rome rewatch and I'll forever be annoyed by it getting cancelled halfway through season 2.

Yeah I don't really like soda but I will go through cases of sparkling water. I have a third hand Soda Stream and it's fine, the flavor additives are very hit or miss though.

Maybe it makes me a baby but I have a really hard time with end of the world media and zombies. It also makes my anxiety pretty bad. I have an ex who was very offended that I didn't like stuff like the Walking Dead and she thought it made me a little immature to have issues with it.

Oh my good friend keeps trying to get me to watch Handmaid's Tale but I'm in a similar "nah, too close to real life" space. Plus I've read the book and that was enough for me.

All I have to do is roll out of bed and turn on my work laptop to go to work this morning but I still don't want to. I've been checking email and already got contacted for an actual emergency on my vacation last week so I'm already caught up on most of my non-field work related work.

My state agency is also on a hybrid model and I really like it. Going in to the office 3 days a week and working from home 2 days works really well for me and it seems likely to stay that way given the huge amount of positive feedback. Plus my work from home days are Monday and Friday so I can't complain too much.

Most state agencies in Washington also don't drug test unless you do something like drive a car in to a wall or get caught reeking of booze or stealing meds. Half the time they don't even check your license to be sure it's not expired or suspended before you take out an agency car in King County, which was fun when someone got pulled over and it came out they had a suspended license for like 2 DUIs they got after they'd been hired.

Speaking of the dead I'm glad my mom pushed my grandparents memorial service back to next weekend because flooding is loving things up their area. She also agreed to give me the painting I want, which is the only thing from grandma and grandpa's I want. Now we're waiting for probate to clear before selling the house and splitting things per my grandparents wishes. I do wish they had done a "baby sister gets x amount at 18, 21 and 25" thing in their will since she will get a huge amount of money straight at 18.

Yeah a friend of mine from work caught original Covid in November last year and it took until September of this year for her to get fully cleared to come back to work full time. She wasn't even severe enough for hospitalization but it hosed her lungs up so badly that she now requires a rescue inhaler be on her at all times and has a hard time walking for too long. It also destroyed her marriage since her husband didn't do poo poo and still thinks Covid is no big deal.

I hate the hagiography and weird cult that was built up around RGB since it makes an actual discussion about her rulings and ideas almost impossible to have. At least with Scalia you can break down his poo poo without someone getting offended by it. RGB herself inspired a lot of women to get involved in policy and law, which is fine and good in its own way and I hope we can get to a point where there can be a more nuanced reassesment of her ala Sandra Day O'Connor soon.

I'm not seeing it but I won't pretend like I was hanging out in Paris last fall or anything.

As long as super low rise jeans don't come back in a huge way for women I don't care. If it means my current leggings and oversized sweater/sweatshirt combo stays acceptable to go out in public in then folks can go right back in time to the 90s where we had frosted brown lipstick and body glitter everywhere.

My paternal grandparents also had a computer with AOL and I got my own account as a pre-teen in 1999, I think. My friends and I used to to go to random chatrooms and AOL specific message boards for like Lord of the Rings and Sailor Moon since my account was not age restricted. ~~memories~~

My partner's teaching remote at least through next Friday because Seattle Public Schools refuses to call a district wide return to remote learning so each individual school basically is making the call depending on the number of staff and students out. Surprise! Most of the schools cancelling or temporarily going remote are all in the south end. Also people are predictably being super lovely about it.

Meanwhile my agency still hasn't reposted the position I applied for and I'm starting to think our regional headquarters decided to reallocate it somewhere else.

Guess who called up for after hours work tomorrow because one of my old cases blew up and they need a social worker who's worked it before? It's super sad but it's also one of those CPS cases that feels inevitable because the parent is has some serious mental heath issues that need more time to help than 30 to 60 day case can solve.

I think at this point I'm just super frustrated because I did so much work earlier on this case that no one followed up with so now I'm going to have to push to remove this kiddo because they are not safe. I hate removing kids and do my absolute best to avoid it but this is a case where the parent is unquestionably unsafe and it sucks. I've done both the investigative and the long term case carrying ends of CPS (plus non-case carrying intensive superivison and fatality/near fatality reviews) and I'll be hitting 8 years soon but there are times where it just doesn't get easier. Right now I just want someone to give me bullshit rich people custody cases all day, every day.
