absolutely. I played the saturn version probably more than any other game on the console. the music blew my freaking mind, the piano on stage 1 kicks rear end. it has been on my list to try and 1cc for years

Timeless. A masterpiece. One of the few games that somehow gets better with age. Still finding new secrets even 23 years later. No game since that has tried to copy its style has got it right.

The big monsters are all generally a lot more fun than the small ones, they're too beefy and you have too little AoE (except for mages) to get that really sick ARPG cutting down hordes of enemies gameplay. But they're still easy unless you're asleep at the wheel. Kind of a weird in-between, and it ends up making the escort mission that's like 5 minutes into the game feel like it takes 100 years. I bought it for my Switch and I'm gonna replay it but I am dreading that loving cart mission again.

Otoh maybe this time I'll play something besides warrior with assassin feats to make grappling easier and do more damage, lol.

you can speed up the cart by kicking the ox

Review:

After years I finally beat this game. It's a masterpiece. It's crazy to say this, but it's probably like... my second favorite Kojima game ever? The twists are incredible, the story is awesome and so is everything else. From the music to the art design to the incredible voice acting (considering its 1994) this is probably the only reason you would ever want to own a Sega CD lol. There is only one downside and that is having to use the controller for the shooting sections, which are kinda lame, but I heard you could use a justifier instead which may have been cool. If you haven't played this, I can't recommend it enough.

9.5/10

it is perfect, apart from those shooting sections. I'm far enough removed from playing it that I've been thinking about playing it again
