MOTYC: Hangman Adam Page vs. Bryan Danielson, AEW World Title Match - AEW Dynamite 1/5/22 HM: Jurassic Express vs. The Lucha Brothers, AEW World Tag Team Title Match, AEW Dynamite 1/5/22 Tag title match was incredibly close to MOTYC as well. Hangman vs Bryan was even better than their first match imho, just a perfect showcase for both guys and a way to show Hangman's grit and ability to overcome even the toughest opponents.

MOTYC: Cody Rhodes vs. Sammy Guevara, AEW Beach Break, 1/26 HM: Chris Jericho/Santana/Ortiz vs. 2.0/Daniel Garcia, AEW Beach Break, 1/26 MOTYC: Adam Cole vs. Orange Cassidy, AEW Beach Break, 1/26 Cody vs Sammy is one of the greatest AEW matches ever and one of the greatest ladder matches ever, what a freaking show those two put on. The 6 man tag was super fun and got a bump up thanks to the friction between Jericho and PnP. I think I liked the lights out match more than most, it just really clicked for me. OC showed more of that aggressive side that's been popping up since he yelled at Statlander, Cole came across as an actual psychopath at times, and OC being smart enough to wear a cup was great and retroactively makes all those nut shots worth it. Fun way to debut Danhausen, great handling of the interference spots (they all happened in a cluster and had no relevance on the match itself, but everybody still came out to help their buddies), and the deadly hug to finish things was amazing.

Great character work, a freaking Pepsi Plunge, and Wardlow's relationship with MJF managed to become even more interesting. I also really appreciated how much offense Yuta got in for his match, considering it was a last minute substitution. He's kind of been the designated fall guy for Best Friends, so it was nice to see him be competitive with one of the top guys in AEW.

Pylons posted:AEW Revolution 2022 Nthing all of these. The ladder match was very close to a MOTYC for me. So many fun and creative spots and it was definitely Wardlow's time for a big win. Britt and Rosa would have been an HM were it not for the end. You know what you're getting in a big Britt match, but this was too much for me. It went from "oh man, how can Rosa overcome this?" to "oh, okay it's more bullshit interference".

Dean didn't do anything but also avoided looking like a complete loser, and that dude losing his poo poo when he saw Wardlow was pretty much how I reacted at home, too. I had not yet seen Marina on Dark, this was a pretty rough match and I don't know if it's representative of her work or just a bad one-off thing.

Cole and Dax was heartbreaking in the best way, and Cole is such a good smarmy heel that I can't wait for him to lose spectacularly, based solely on his superkick and HBK-isms in this match. Jamie vs Toni started a little slow but holy crap did they kick it into high gear. Absolutely loved this match, they did a great job of making Toni and Jamie both seem like absolutely powerhouse beasts. Darby vs Hardy was wild, nothing else to be said there. Hardy's best singles match in forever, some of the craziest stuff I've ever seen, and the finish was believable and set up well.

HM: House of Black vs Dark Order (Evil Uno & 10) & Fuego del Sol HM: Kris Statlander vs Red Velvet HM: Blackpool Combat Club vs Dante Martin & Matt Sydal All from the 5/20/22 AEW Rampage. Kris vs Red was really really good. Red's always been good but maybe a bit unpolished, but her heel turn seems to have done wonders for her. If this was a quick change based off of Leyla getting injured, it's one of the best on-the-fly booking decisions AEW has ever done. Statlander continues to be a beast and my #1 pick to be the next TBS or Women's Champion.

Punk vs Hangman ruled, if Hangman had to lose I prefer it in a classic match where he loses because he's ultimately a good person who's still conflicted. MJF vs Wardlow is the best heel comeuppance match in AEW history, so good.

Dynamite 7/13 MOTYC: Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita MOTYC: Swerve in our Glory vs. Powerhouse Hobbs & Ricky Starks vs. Young Bucks MOTYC: Orange Cassidy vs. Wardlow I really liked OC vs Wardlow, so I'm pushing it up above most people. Why? It seemed like a lose-lose match on paper, either OC or Wardlow would get booed for beating the other guy. That didn't happen. Both guys looked amazing, with OC constantly countering Wardlow's power but Wardlow slowly wearing down OC to the point that he couldn't keep fighting. Chuck Taylor with a chainsaw.
