Also, Crows are gonna wanna kick straighter if they play against a better team.

The Crows definitely need to start kicking straighter, but so far this year they have built their wins on defence. They've only conceded nine goals in five matches, including matches against the teams currently sitting 3rd, 4th and 5th on the ladder (whose only losses have been to the Crows). Sarah Allan is an absolute gun, as you correctly noted. She's been my favourite player other than Chelsea Randall since 2018 when she first moved down back. Girl just doesn't get beaten in defence. cmndstab fucked around with this message at 10:37 on Feb 6, 2022 |

Media seems to be conflating two extremely different things with its reporting on Simon Goodwin today One, that he drank and gambled with players in the 2020/21 off-season. Doesn’t seem a massive issue to me. Is more about the balance a coach needs to strike between connecting with players and maintaining some distance, and given the results last year it seems he struck a balance that works for his playing group. I can see some concern over the influence it might have on younger members of the playing group, but I guess they’re all adults at the end of the day? I don’t think the AFL really has a place in saying what level of casual socialisation is okay between players and coach. The other issue is of alleged workplace bullying of the clubs head doctor by Goodw/in. This is extremely serious, and it appears the President at the time, who is also a lawyer in workplace issues, saw there was a lot to be concerned about in the allegations. Ultimately he got undermined and rolled by the CEO and other board members. It’s staggering to me that the club didn’t at the very least stand Goodwin down while investigating further. The entire thing looks like a massive coverup, they’ve signed a mutual non-disparagement agreement, and then immediately the CEO has started disparaging the doctors character to the Board. Guess I will be voting in the board election after all. It was nice having a club I wasn’t ashamed of for a good couple months.

Rumours have been floating around about Goodwin's gambling problem for a long time now. Also the fact that they had to essentially assign a babysitter for him when he went to Vegas is telling since they clearly felt he couldn't be trusted.

The Crows absolutely had their chances to at least draw the game, just panicked in the moment. Still did very well to get back into it after the Bulldogs jumped out to a three goal lead early on! I remember another season where the Bulldogs pipped the Crows by a single point though, and that one worked out okay

Looked pretty innocuous on the TV footage, certainly not the standard ACL kind of thing where they change directions or get tackled one way and the knee buckles. On the TV coverage they said it was a cork from a marking contest. Fingers crossed it will be something relatively minor. She's looked a bit worn out the last few weeks anyway. I can't help but think she's near the end of her footy career. Hopefully she'll get a few weeks rest and come back fresh for the finals.

Chairchucker posted:Wow I didn't realise there were four teams on identical points up the top of the ladder Yes, there are essentially five teams who all seem roughly equally good this year in Adelaide, Fremantle, Melbourne, North and Brisbane. Collingwood are not far off that pack. The interesting thing is that most of the top five haven't played each other yet (except the Crows who have played three of them). Hence the top four have all only dropped one match. The next two rounds have some very fascinating matchups, albeit they are subject to change due to Covid etc. They will go a long way towards deciding who gets to play home finals. Round 8: Fremantle vs Crows Melbourne vs North Round 9: Fremantle vs Melbourne Brisbane vs North Crows vs Collingwood Brisbane vs Melbourne also just happened last night, with Melbourne just getting over the line. Had to feel sorry for Brisbane who were playing their third game in nine days, while Melbourne were coming off a nine day break. The battle for sixth spot (ie the last spot in the finals) is also very much alive. Mathematically a bunch of teams can still make it but realistically it should be one of Collingwood, Bulldogs or Gold Coast. Collingwood have an extra win and percentage over the other two, but has played one more match than them. Bulldogs and Gold Coast will play each other tonight (a catchup match after they missed their round 3 clash) and the winner will join Collingwood on 4 wins. Collingwood also plays both of them in the final three rounds as well as Adelaide, so the door is definitely open for any of those three to get up. Also, after tomorrow night we'll finally be back to parity in terms of everyone having played the same number of matches, when the GWS vs St Kilda catchup match from round 5 happens. cmndstab fucked around with this message at 05:36 on Feb 22, 2022 |

Sounds like Anderson finally got his second vaccine and can train with North again. I did feel a bit sorry for him because it sounds like he got hosed up by the first dose and didn’t want the second rather than being an anti vax nuffy like the others that have been in the news.
