even if you tighten the cap 100% there is still a greater volume of empty space in the bottle that the gas will leak into - I used to know someone that would push all the air out of a soda bottle before screwing on a cap but that's actually counterproductive as you are just making more empty space (air is not empty space) for the gasses to leak into!!
