I seem to recall that original suicide squad was recut last minute to be more like the trailer for the film. Like they gave the job to the company that made the trailer. Which was basically set to a song. Which is why the movie is such a mess. I saw a YouTube about it once upon a time so it must be right.

It wouldn't surprise me at all. Like I said, the main characters are introduced three times in three completely different ways. And all the "needle drops" are with songs from the trailer and the action doesn't quite fit.

Wiig's character gaining powers and brutally beating a man attempting to assault her = villain turn, ominous music

Diana setting free the random guy whose consciousness was forcibly taken over by her dead boyfriend = the ultimate hero sacrifice

Just bizarre decisions all around

It's thought they decided it needed to be DCCU's Guardians of the Galaxy which uncut Suicide Squad wasn't and recut wasn't much of anything other than a Frankenstein's monster wondering why it was made to feel pain.

The other thing about WW84 that gets me aside from the extremely not thought through idea of having Steve possess some rando was having Diana be hung up on a guy she knew decades ago for like a month. This however is a symptom of the DCCU just aping Marvel without any understanding of why what the MCU was doing worked at the time so they had to play with that whole 'she kept to herself until BvS, even sitting out WW2' thing.

I feel like a bunch of needle drops got added because GotG had just had a massive box office success and they wanted to try and retool the movie into something that would directly compare. The problem was that they sucked and didn't fit the scenes they were crammed into, probably because it was an 11th hour thing and they didn't have a competent soundtrack person.

whats funny is james gunn does that trope but makes it work.

I'll take every opportunity I can to gush over the fact that, apart from the initial surprise hit High Evolutionary gets in on Rocket, Rocket just completely outclasses him once they finally have their big confrontation. Rocket lived with the trauma for a long time and was intimidated by his memory of a towering figure from early in his awakening intelligence, but showing how far Rocket had gone beyond the petty nothing that the supposedly perfect/most evolved man was supposed to be was very, very satisfying.

Anyway, Peacemaker... I loved it, hope season 2 is great too!

I've watched the movie three times just to show people how bizarre it is and I'm still not sure what Pedro Pascal's deal was. But he absolutely carried that movie as much as he could.

It's very bizarre in every way. Like they wrote the script in one bender session and studio gave no notes and all the millions to make it. I think my favorite stupid thing is that despite taking place in the 80s it has nearly no 80s fan-service. Also the ridiculous WW out runs a armored convey to save some Palestinian kids playing in the middle of the road in front of said massive convoy.

Which leads into the hilarious bit in Shazam 2 when it looks like Billy is dead and they're all "only a god can revive him" so Diana steps out of the shadows to go on about how there's still a god left or whatever and her electric guitar riff kicks in. It's amazing.

It just takes creative artists and directors to make it work. But far too often CGI stuff is outsourced to cheap animation farms that do the bare minimum with no direction or artistic vision, so the results really suck. Even though studios like Disney and Warner Brothers have unlimited money, they still cheap out. Its really disappointing. Super Hero genre is where you could probably do the most creative work with CGI in my opinion.

Yeah main issue seems to be is there is just to much or it and it's just being used as a crutch. An action scene can be entirly cgi, if every one has time to properly plan it out and make it work. Instead every thing always seems to be rushed as hell, and comes off dull and lifeless, and the scenes always seem to be way to long with a bunch of repetative action, making things worse.
