Fiance and I have been watching that Awkwafina show on HBO MAX, and we thought it would be annoying but actually it's really funny! The grandma in particular is a highlight of the show and just a hoot.

Been on a MUBI kick lately, grabbed the 3 months/$1 deal that was being offered through last week. Watched Beats (Groove + Superbad + 94 Scotland), Taipei S*icide Story (amazing, heartbreaking) and The Turin Horse (the perfection of cinema) so far. It's been a lot of fun diving back into artsy world cinema and discovering all these films that I would have not come across otherwise.

Also re-watched Red Dawn 2012 for fun, and boy that movie is just so batshit insane.

I would recommend adding I Think You Should Leave to the Netflix list, Kevin Can F Himself to Amazon Prime and Only Murders in the Building to Disney+.

I had an extended period of working from home to part-time employment to unemployment to Covid just before Christmas and binged the entirety of La Casa De Papel (Money Heist) on Netflix over the course of just over a month. It's probably better that you go in knowing as little as possible but what I would say is that it's deliciously stylistic and addictive, has characters that you'll actually end up caring a great deal for played by uniformly excellent actors and a frenzied pace. It combines everything I adored about Jane the Virgin and the early seasons of Arrow, a billion crazy twists per episode.

I Think You Should Leave is amazing. Every time I watch it, I have a new favorite sketch. Right now, I think it's the burger one from S2, or maybe the Drivers Ed video. "DON'T ASK ABOUT THE TABLES"

I caught up on You, what an utterly batshit ride season 3 is

Agreed! I actually really like S3 a lot, especially compared to S2 which I just didn't love (no pun intended). Speaking of Love, I really liked her character in S3. I wasn't really into her arc in S2 and making her a crazy killer too seemed silly. But I legit felt bad for her in S3, as she has more of a "justification" for her actions compared to Joe. Having her die at the end really shocked my fiancé and I. That scene with the Taylor Swift song was pretty drat emotional. Also, I am glad that couple made it out alive, they were hilarious. Really interested to see what happens in S4

On another note, we finished Lovecraft Country, and I have to say, what an odd loving show. I know that it's supposed to come off as "pulp-y", but the mix of race relations of the time, with Once-style magic spells just created such an un-even tone. And I don't consider myself a dumb person, but god forbid I walked away for a minute, I would completely lose track of what the hell was going on. Though, some of the body horror stuff was SPOT ON, especially a certain scene in a dark alleyway.

We have no started Flight Attendant, and about 4 episodes in, and I am loving it. Hopefully it doesn't flop here towards the end

Watched "The girl across the street..." this last weekend and loved it. The tone was just slightly off enough that I found myself giggling at all the dumb things happening like the mailbox, the changing tombstone messages, the extended fight with the kid, the casseroles to name a few

The Fresh Prince reboot (Bel Air) is good. Not great, but good. Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv are cool as hell, as is Geoffrey.
Carlton makes a good villain. Will is Will but less Will. Ashley hasn't done that much, Hilary seems about right.

The original is one of my favorite comedies ever so I'll continue watching this one to just to see where it goes.

The show needs more lighthearted moments, though.

I put off watching this just because the concept of a "serious" Bel Air seemed so silly. But because of this post I decided to start it...and yeah I don't hate it! Everything is well done enough to keep me interested for now. I agree though, def needs more jokes.

Honestly I am so glad for the one I recently found. It works like a charm on the xbox browser and has next to no ads. I just can't justify having 54 different platforms anymore. Hulu and HBO are the only two I pay for at this point (Paramount + luckily I got free thorugh Tmobie so I can watch soccer)

Any suggestions for my other two credits for the month on there?

Columbus and Tangerine are two that I recently watched and loved

Sonic 2 hit Paramount+ today. It's fine! It is def an improvement over the first in most ways. The action is a little better, Knuckles and Tails are great and I do like Carrey's Eggman. Though, my biggest issue which stems from the first movie, is setting it primarily in the human world. The great thing about the Sonic games imo, is the visual splendor of all the different "zones" and worlds. The PNW is great and nice but makes for a boring setting for a something like this. Also, I just could care less about anything relating to James Marsden and his antics.

Still, the post credit stuff has me excited for 3!

What are some other good horror/not horror movies? ie. Green Room, The Hunt (the Mads Mikkelson movie not the dumb slasher from last year). Like, movies that aren't technically horror but are tense thrillers or dramas with some horrific scenario.

Sorcerer, especially the back half is a very intense viewing experience

After Hours isn’t quite what I’m looking for. I guess I probably didn’t need the “less emphasis on horror” amendment, I just meant that I’m not looking for pure horror movies. Sci-fi horror, action horror, something horror adjacent, in an urban setting. Like it’s not a haunted house or a setting where the characters are secluded and alone - the idea of a community having to deal with a crisis if some kind, be it supernatural, an otherworldly entity, government shenanigans etc is more what I’m thinking.

Miracle Mile deals with an impending nuclear strike during the twilight hours in Downtown LA. It has an amazing vibe to it, one of my all time favs

Personally, more than anything, I thought Blonde was just boring as hell. I can see why people were turned off my the films few shocking moments (that JFK scene in particular was downright offensive. Can't believe that made it into the film) but I was on my phone for like 80% of it, which I rarely do. I mean, Ana was great, and the movie looked nice but it really did not need to be 3 hours by any means.

Peacock has surprisingly become one of my most used streaming services on a day-to-day basis. Between the movies Tar, M3GAN etc, original shows like Poker Face, Bel Air and all the Bravo guilty pleasures like Million Dollar Listing, Below Deck and Vanderpump....It gets a lot of use in our household.

A Million Little Things(Hulu/ABC) is such suburban house mom drama porn a la This is Us, that I got sucked into while casually watching with my partner... but you bet your rear end I teared up during the finale, ever if it was telegraphed from the start.

On a happier note, Minari, After Yang, The Farewell, and The Green Knight are on Tubi along with the 2022 Korean action film The Killer which is really cool.

Weekend watch report:

Chucky S2 - Really good! Just constantly impressed with how good the show turned out.
Infinity Pool - Good, not quite great. Last bit of the film kind of felt flat compared to the start.
Don't Breathe 2 - Not great. Even looking past the crazy premise, it just felt mostly silly and dumb but not in a super enjoyable way.

*EDIT: This is not the horror thread lol
