what the hell is up with that first bazaar mission? i spent 15 minutes looking for people to talk to, before giving up and looking up that you're supposed to leave the bazaar.

yeah you're supposed to get the three side missions and go do them even though it keeps telling you to find new questgivers. Truly dog-brained, I had the same problem.

I did the same thing as well, but I'm pretty open about my own perceived lack of intelligence, so I kinda figured it was just that.

That bow is poo poo though. Vendors will stock them from that point on, buy a better one.

I'm like level 3 and still in the first area and vendors have had bows for me for a while.

Maybe i got them unlocked early because of a preorder bonus or through my techland account or something.

don't switch back and forth between two parkour focused games. a) the controls differences will mess you, and b) you might kill yourself jumping onto a pile of trash bags (cyberpunk in my case)

It’s so badly designed. The quest instructions might as well just be “google it”

I'm about 2/3 through the story and kind of want to finish before I move on to Elden Ring, but at the same time.. meh. If Techland can lose steam part-way through the game, so can I :v2:

Haven't really had a chance to sit down with my friend again to finish the rest of the story together so finally pushed through myself and... wow. Just wow. I will echo the ending is so profoundly stupid it kind of boggles the mind. Thankfully the gameplay is fun at least even if combat is a bit of a joke human enemies by the end and the most recent patch not only fixed a bunch of major issues with the game but also made the physics even more punch-y and satisfying.

I can't imagine doing the ending before the patch with some of the bugfixes called out in the patch notes for it though, goddamn that would have been frustrating to encounter.

(Other games i will get back to eventually but have never finished: gta v, rdr2, fallout 4, skyrim, death stranding, many many others)

I dunno I mostly liked it, I finished it and moved on. it's been out for a bit so I think most people have if they bought it at launch. I don't think it's all that common for people to keep talking about a single player game for more than a month after launch.

It was a decent game that came out after one of the biggest droughts ever and right before some of the most anticipated games in years. I think most of us just bought it and kind of played what we could before Elden Ring, Horizon Gran Turismo or whatever your personal thing is.

I just did the story and maybe 15% of the side stuff tbh but I'm happy to have it around. They supported the hell out of the first one so it'll be fun to return to down the road. It's not like DL is some super remarkable series it's just some fun zombie whacking which is fine.

I didn't even finish the game, it started grating on me towards the end way too much. Didn't care about the story enough to want to finish, the gameplay just felt more soulless compared to DL1 somehow.

I finished it and mostly enjoyed it but I skipped nearly all the side quests and definitely started powering through the main story at one point just to get it over with. One thing that I think was lacking from the first is that nighttime no longer felt either scary or challenging, just annoying. As well as the weapons didn't really seem to have much oomph, hitting zombies with a club just felt like hitting them with a baguette, I believe the patch rectified this a little bit but I don't have any desire to go back and play again.

Lol. One of the main things I was looking forward to was doing NG+ to go with the survivors instead of the fascists peacekeepers. I'd have my crossbow then restart and get all the fun parkour stuff.

...Except they take away your crossbow in NG+. So it is a forever choice between the fun crossbow or the fun environmental stuff!

I feel so immersed with these meaningful choices

very fun game, even if stuffed with so much filling and flavour text that i just gloss over
i feel bad just skipping all the dialogue since there's a ton of it, everyone is very unlikeable so far, but am i correct in assuming i better pick one faction and go full on with it? doesn't seem the type of game where you can fool around with both

The new patch is real good, they toned down the archer damage buffs so that renegade fights aren't such touch and go any more and the new game plus is real solid considering the old game ends at Level 6 and the stats go up to level 9 and it was very possible to end the old game way over leveled

In terms of assigning rewards to the factions it's mechanically best to pick one and stick to it, in terms of the actual plot there's several forks you can take and the ending adjusts on who you go with at the major branches. The plot faction choices are also independent of who you give the city districts to and so you don't have to feel beholden to one faction or another

naw the xbow is busted af and also hilarious. It basically trivializes every human fight and a lot of the human sized infected fight. You just make impact bolts and shoot people off roofs, into walls and into geometry where they immediately die.

Also it scales with your rank so you never have to worry about finding a higher level bow or anything. It's legit kind of unfair if you get it, and most definitely the most powerful thing you can unlock faction wise. The good news is even if you commit to Survivor side fully you still get halfway down the tree of the other faction regardless, so you'll get it eventually.

Dying Light 1 just started up a new event.

quote:

Dying Light - Tolga and Fatin's event

The twins have a special task for you. Hunt down seven types of zombies to get their latest invention.

By chance, you’ve found yourself with quite an opportunity. The eccentric engineer twins, Tolga and Fatin, have decided to get really inspired with their inventions. Whether you’re a high roller at the casino or a sharpshooter in the streets, the Pocket 7’s will give anyone, or anything, a run for their money. Will you roll the dice and see what effect you end up with?

To obtain such a finely crafted weapon, you’ll have to hunt down and kill seven different types of enemies: Goon, Demolisher, Viral, Biter, Toad, Gas Tank, and a Volatile. Oh, and look, lucky you! There’s a few extra perks with the job. Low gravity and Super Crane have been activated to help you make sure you really can get creative and deal with all the monsters. But your streak doesn’t end there—your ammo will be auto-restored in every Save Zone too. We wouldn’t want you to run out of that, now would we? Once you’ve completed your mission and obtained your Pocket 7’s, you’ll roll for one of seven different effects every time you reload: electric bullets, poison bullets, freeze bullets, explosive bullets, super zombie grenade bullets, ballet grenade bullets, and statis bullets.
There’s one thing that’s always constant though—you landing on your feet.

Bounties:
Local bounty: Kill 7 types of enemies (1xGoon, 1xDemolisher, 15x Viral, 20x Biter, 3x Toad, 5x Gas Tank, 1x Volatile)
Reward: The Pocket 7's gun (blueprint)

Global bounty: Kill 10 million enemies
Reward: 3 King mods

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVQnuoSj8pw

The bounty isn't difficult to achieve, and the blueprint is pretty simple too, requiring 1 Pistol, 4 Power Cable, 4 Electronics, 4 Batteries, and 8 Metal Parts. It makes a neat pistol where each shot produces a random effect. However, it only holds one bullet, so it's not ideal with enemies in close quarters. It's still pretty nice for something which is free. I'll rarely say "no" to another firearm - especially an interesting one - in Dying Light.

Evil Kit posted:

Something else worth mentioning is that if you own Dying Light 1 they've done a final update that's gifted all the DLC to anyone who hasn't bought it yet, including the The Following (the DLC expansion area)! Sounds like they're wrapping up support for it at this point.

That's not unexpected. No developers are going to keep working on the same product forever, and I will say that the developers did keep the game supplied with a fairly steady stream of fresh content to keep it alive while Dying Light 2 was still in development.
