LOL like humanity won't of evolved past the need for something so primitive as an "os" by 2023 or 2024 at the latest. Like just piss directly on the device people. This poo poo ain't hard, the device will know what you want it to do.

Animations serve no functional purpose (and I hate them with a burning passion but let's not go there), I use a mouse and keyboard and that expose thing looks like a glorified alt-tab

i was in a compusa in the late 90s and i saw a beos demo machine to show off its incredible power some worker opened up like 30 instances of a media player, all playing the same mp3 i dont know why you would want to play the same mp3 30 times simultaneously but beos could handle that poo poo no sweat it was less great if you wanted to do anything else though

Not gonna lie, I wonder how many of those computers were returned by angry customers trying to install Windows-based applications and if it was worth saving the $50 in license fees or whatever.

Yaldabaoth posted:Do Linux fanboys still scream about "Current Year" being "The year of Linux on desktop" or have they given up on Linux going mainstream and have devolved into an insular cult? It has broken into younger generations' minds through that & raspberry pi type stuff. Computers in general are alien to certain parts of the younger generation who only know tablets, phones, and game consoles. They don't have the biased windows lockin of people who have had it bundled with everything since forever. Things like WSL have also aided adoption a bit. As does every server imaginable running some flavor of linux. And every application being a web browser these days has accidentally created a lot of stuff that just works in linux. Every OS is terrible in its own way and there's nothing that stands out as great. I use macOS for work, fedora/ubuntu for work, windows for certain audio/video recording and gaming stuff, and manjaro for home stuff. all of them have the same work flow: use alt+tab, press os key + type a few letters and hit enter to launch an application (os+space on macos, of course), switch workspaces, type some junk into a terminal sometimes (except windows unless you wanna google power shell, instead you navigate 10 generations of UI menus to find the useful setting that's increasingly buried). The best personal computing platform died with Commodore in 1994, meanwhile Linux is real good and Windows is collapsing under the weight of decades of patches, quick fixes and half-implemented features.
