Yesterday was an interesting day in wrestling.

- First, the Post revealed that Vince's victim wrote him a six-page love letter (sent by Vince's camp), countered with texts suggesting that these letters were basically an assigned project that Vince would have her write up to feed his ego. Apparently, she would also plagiarize stuff in order to pad them out.

- CM Punk did an interview with WWE shill Ariel Helwani that didn't really do a great job making Punk look as good as he thought it did. Stuff like saying that guaranteed contracts is the worst thing to happen to wrestling, how he was willing to move on and forgive WWE but at the same time when Colt Cabana tried to talk things out at AEW Punk said he'd only speak with a lawyer present, admitting to assaulting Jack Perry, etc. He also spoke out about Vince's actions... in the sense that he can't believe Vince would be stupid enough to leave a paper trail.

His criticism against Tony Khan was that he was trying to be more of a friend than a boss, which is a decent criticism except for how this ended up in Punk's favor 95% of the time.

- In some bad timing, Tony Khan proved Punk wrong as AEW released a handful of talent. This is a big deal and felt pretty scummy as AEW was always about letting contracts expire instead of simply cutting people, unless it was warranted. On one hand, most of these names are extremely low on the card to the point that they're Ring of Honor jobbers or haven't been on TV in forever. One guy, Anthony Henry, is out on injury, making this extra lovely.

The strangest of the cuts is the Boys. For context, there's a wrestler Dalton Castle who is this flamboyant dude with his own duo of tag partners/personal harem called the Boys. They're usually in his corner, flash up his entrance, work with him in six-man tags, etc. A current storyline had Johnny TV (John Morrison) earn the rights to the Boys, setting up a match at Friday's ROH PPV. The Boys themselves haven't really been on the show and Johnny mentioned how he lost them in the mountains and that they were probably eaten by bears.

And I guess that's their kayfabe ending! So now they're going to do a PPV match centered around two guys who aren't in the company anymore! And they were probably eaten by bears! Wrestling!

And to contrast the Macho Man vs Ricky Steamboat match from decades past...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XkGv2G4xMA&t=51s

You can see its DNA in this match. Rapid fire basics, no slowdown, with some modern tweaks like finisher spam.

Speaking of Macho...

You realize that not only did Savage pull a good to great match out of Ultimate Warrior, but you notice all the little tricks Savage put into the match to work around Hellwig's main issue: he got blown up and exhausted super fast because of all the roid muscle and not great cardio. When average wrestlers get winded quick, you get rest holds and dead spots. Savage found more enthralling ways to let Hellwig catch his breath.

Hellwig walking to the ring helped too.

Hell, the first time WWE tried to get Jade, they wanted her to essentially give up her family life, which led to her signing with AEW.

Then, they gave her a Brinks truck full of money and the Roman schedule.

Assuming Cody OVERCOMES THE ODDS and FINISHES THE STORY tonight, I'm concerned that in three or four years we're going to find out he was secretly a serial killer.

(I have mused that the 10's of Wrestlemanias are cursed, and that the 20's might be SUPER cursed based on how WM 20 ended, compared to the bad stuff that happened to the main eventers of 10 and 30 being 'less so' than what happened with Guerrero and Benoit)

WWE does have a guy with the gimmick of "deranged serial killer with a heart of gold... except for all the murdering," but I don't think he's been on TV for forever.

Now for some hilarious wrestling stuff going on, because even with Night 2 of WrestleMania being on tonight, there's at least a big distraction in the meantime.

- As well established, AEW's All In event started with a backstage altercation where CM Punk and Jack Perry got in a scuffle, Punk was livid and wanted to quit on the spot, and Samoa Joe told him to back off and go to the ring so they could at least do their match. A couple days later, Punk was fired with cause, as since this show was such an important milestone, documentary and security cameras were everywhere, so Punk had no leg to stand on. For a while, the only person to outright talk about what happened was third party DJ Whoo Kid, who was there for Swerve Strickland's entrance and barely knew anything about the product, to the point that when he was explaining it in an interview, he referred to Samoa Joe as "that big Hawaiian [dude]."

- Punk later signed with WWE. He was planned to get a big match at WrestleMania, but got injured during the Royal Rumble. While Drew McIntyre is challenging for Seth Rollins' world title, he's been spending much of the lead-up trolling Punk, setting up a feud for later.

- Jack Perry vanished from AEW immediately after All In. He has since resurfaced in AEW's ally promotion NJPW, where he tore up his AEW contract, joined the heel group House of Torture, and has been calling himself "The ScapeGOAT."

- The Young Bucks have embraced the image their critics have against them as smarmy EVPs and have made it their gimmick. The belief is that they will eventually bring Jack Perry back and into their ranks. Also, the next PPV has them in a tournament finals with FTR, a team known for being Punk's buddies during his time in AEW.

- To hype up WrestleMania, Punk appeared on a podcast by Ariel Helwani, a dude who is tight with WWE and has an antagonistic relationship with Tony Khan. While the interview wasn't the most scathing thing ever, Punk did talk poo poo about AEW, including how he choked out Jack Perry and several criticisms of Tony Khan as a boss.

- Between the Punk interview and presumably the backlash of cutting some lesser talent, Tony had Adam Copeland start Wednesday's Dynamite with a passionate speech about how AEW makes wrestling better. While Copeland has done various "AEW is great!" promos during his time there so far, this one felt very blatant. Tony was very much gotten to.

- Potshots continued from WWE's side, including a bewildering Triple H interview where he defended their inability to sign the likes of Ospreay, Okada, and Mercedes Mone because they would rather get paid more, spend time with their families, and not take part in the grind. lovely take, not even counting how their top guy wrestles like 6 times a year. Punk also threw some shade towards Ospreay by making fun of a tattoo he got in regards to All In's attendance.

- AEW's Saturday show Collison normally would have been airing alongside WrestleMania Night 1, but due to the Final Four, the pre-taped show didn't air until just before midnight. It was during the broadcast that it was announced that this Wednesday, the Young Bucks will be airing the All In backstage footage. From all accounts, this is NOT a gag. Tony Khan was livid about the Punk stuff and decided, gently caress it, he's going to go scorched earth. People are saying that unless this really makes Punk look bad, this is a terrible idea on Tony's part, but gently caress it, this poo poo's interesting. At the very least, it services Jack Perry's eventual return.

- On the Friday after, Jack Perry is going to be taking part in a NJPW show... in Chicago. Hoo boy.

the funniest part is HHH not seeming to understand why people would rather go to AEW instead of WWE where they will have to work ridiculous schedules, lose the rights to their gimmicks and have to give WWE a cut of anything they do outside of wrestling, and get paid less
