Really good ending to a season that contained very strong moments very often but that was messy and unfocused and never came together in a way that felt satisfying for me, especially with how many threads were dropped. I liked it a lot, but it fell JUST short of being A-grade for me.

I hope season 3 uses a timeskip to age the characters up to match their actors, and then has a sitcom-like format where they live in apartments across the hall from each other in the Big City.

They really have a “being there for each other” vibe, right? They could call it out in the theme song.

What year of school are they supposed to be in? Rue said she finished the year clean, but Cassie still seems to be in school and is a year older than them? Also in season 1, Rue said she was born just after 9/11, so she's 21? Is this a late 2010s period piece? I'm thinking about this way too hard.

I think trying to think about the exact timeline this show operates on is gonna break your brain, Orange Is The New Black or Gotham style.

What little of Cal's hookups was shown in s01 made it look like Jules was the only minor, maybe Nate showed that to the police and then will show the press the rest, since all of those encounters are violent no one else will hire Cal.

Yeah, I feel that'd be the bigger issue. Nate said he removed Jules' video from the collection, and honestly? I believe him in this one case.

Nate’s reasoning for disposing of the Jules recording is he didn’t want it to destroy his dads business since he was set to inherit it. They’re in California right? If so, those recordings would be illegal regardless of the recordees age and “Cal taped his romps with prostitutes” wouldn’t quite sully a business like “the owner sleeps with teenagers”.

I don't think they are counting the two years off for covid. I think Rue and Lexi are juniors and a year behind Cassie and Maddy who are seniors. The year is probably 2018ish. But really it doesn't matter and the actors all look the same because they are in their mid 20s irl.

Cal panics in Season 1 because he discovers that his hook-up was a high school student, which he didn't know.

Yeah, the Cal ending stuff tripped me up. Nate told Jules he didn't know about other copies, but then when Cal says "what's on it" (the flash drive), Nate just says "EVERYTHING". I always thought they went out of their way to show the other people Cal hooked up with were of age, (we see it with the younger guy in the hotel, and then also the people in the warehouse in the Finale with him). They were young, sure, but none of them looked under 18. And like was said above, he panicked when he figured out Jules was local AND underage, AND went to HS with his son, his engagement with her at the Carnival was basically "please don't ruin my life". So it definitely didn't seem he was a pedo, just more in-the-closet, and not knowing how to act. I mean, they also didn't bring up the 3rd son. Which, when Cal took the picture off the wall, I thought "here we go! they are going to tell us!" but nothing. Maybe they weren't sure if they were getting another season, so they had to wing it and hope for the best. (the Rue ending seems to tie in with that too). I read a bunch of interviews with Rza about the Hulu Wu-Tang show, because there is a lot of back tracking from the season finales, and he was like "I didn't know about renewals until the season was already wrapped, so I wanted to at least try to cap it, so we wouldn't leave everyone sad if we didn't get picked up again". I mean, it makes sense, so I wonder if this was something like that. *(Kind of weird, because I believe this season had a LOT of viewers and is one of HBO's currently most successful shows, but who knows).

"Everything" was probably said to make Cal poo poo bricks. When Nate ruins lives he relishes every second of it but doing a "lol jk" with Jules and not twisting the knife seems out of character. That said, who knows, the guy is a total demon. Poor Tyler is probably deep-faked into it too just to ruin that guy's day some more.

Cal was using inferior lumber in all his construction projects and with Pudgy Walsh retired he had noone to cover for him.

Lost it at “that’s racist” from the crowd. The whole play ending was funny as hell. And then Rue’s whole memorial speech was given it’s proper light and as someone who lost someone traumatically and spoke at their funeral I was crying hard. The show at the heart is about grief and loss so I guess it sticks with me because it came out that same year of my experience. Everything about this season felt like a mish mash of lows and very high highs. And will the Laurie plot get wrapped up at all? I’m not onboard with using that threat of violence without some form of valve to release at the other end, because then it feels like cheap tension. I’d love a time skip to Rue working through recovery and some spotlight on that process of self and family healing, which could make interesting tv but who wants to see happy successes.

I really wanted them to address the Laurie thing in some capacity but now I hope they never bring it up again. She got roped for Mouse’s murder, it is canon.

Chloe Cherry tried to put the murder on Laurie. I guess we should assume that the police made enough trouble for her in the aftermath that she forgets about Rue.

Whew, that was a messy season. The highs were really incredible though and the cinematography was exquisite. "And then I was sober for the rest of the school year" felt like a real cop out, but it seems like they panicked and started cleaning house for next season.

Was Rue's line about her sobriety real, or was it part of the play -- and therefore potentially wishful thinking on Lexie's part. I'm asking because i legit can't remember.

I recently binged this after seeing Zendaya in Dune, and reading some criticisms of her performance in that flick. She wasn’t given a whole lot to do in Dune, but she should have a bigger part in the second film. I thought she was amazing in Euphoria, and I hope I never hear anyone say she can’t act again.

Yeah that episode in season 2 where they give her the intervention and she consequently goes on the run mid-withdrawal is a great testament to her acting chops. It's crazy to see her go from a strung out teenage rear end in a top hat to something like her consistently well-put together, literally high fashion red carpet looks! For more fun dissonance I recommend everybody watch Jacob Elordi on Hot Ones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDbBia1GwUM

I’ve heard so many people say that, and she absolutely carries multiple Euphoria episodes on her performance alone. Rue requires excellent comedic timing, and intense dramatic weight, and the capacity to switch from one to the next within a single scene, in a way that feels organic. I can’t think of many actors who can do that, of any age or experience level.
