It's weird that Giant Days has never been optioned for TV, it really feels like something a British production company could do on the cheap (and probably completely gently caress up in the process).

I never thought Daisy actually was a student of Snooker or Pool, I just figured she had an innate, almost supernatural affinity for games (see also; how good she is at darts and cricket)

A part of me wishes we lived in the universe where he decided that actually doing a batman crossover was too risky, so went with plan B, which was exactly the same but instead of batman it was a Garfield themed superhero.

Powerful Katrinka posted:

I'm glad to hear that, because it'd be a shame if "Giant Days" was just a lackluster "Bad Machinery." My issue isn't the characters, it's that the story is very short and boring, and John Allison knows how to write a fun and engaging mystery/caper so this is a disappointment. It feels like he lost his nerve partway through the comic and rushed to finish it before DC could hear about it and shut him down mid-story. And/or he was taken with the idea of his characters meeting Batman, couldn't come up with a good story, and did it anyway. Like he drew the cover and came up with a plot to go with it

I love Giant Days but I agree with you. I don't mind all that much because it's nice to see the Giant Days cast again.

GD is far more grounded in reality than Bad Machinery. I'd liken it to Spaced in tone, in that its weirder elements are just regular student/young adult stuff turned up to 11 rather than explicit supernatural goings on. A good example is in Giant Days, several characters slip into Night World, a twisted landscape of shambling figures and weird shapes which is just a metaphor for what happens when you go too long without sleep when working on essays/course work

He also set up a business that re-wrote existing essays for students to turn in as their own, then fled when found out.

AND he broke Ed Gemmel's coffee maker by trying to make a smoothy in it, the bastard.

They need a way for The Nuisance and Dean to meet. The Nuisance always sits beside Claire, so she's moved to the back of the bus where there are more seats, and lured Dean in with a mix of her pixy-ish looks and bee-themed jumper.

I assume the plan is to get Dean and the Nuisance talking, then leave the bus

If you have not read Giant Days, I suggest you correct that as soon as possible, because it's honestly his best work (and is helped by having different artists). It's print only though.
