As is tradition, there will be a patch

Also tradition, new bugs will be introduced and last for 3-6 months and in rare cases 2+ years

The bigger culprit in CA games is fog and bloom effects.

Mostly on the campaign map. For what ever reason, they have too many and always have. There are mods that will come out to fix that.

Other than that, don't play on ultra unit sizes. Ultra is dumb.

Sieges as Cathay feel really awkward to me. Are there any tips for how to play them well beyond just waiting for higher tier arty? It feels awful trying to keep harmony anytime you have to advance. I wouldn't be shocked if they raised the range on it eventually.

Get ork friends to show up randomly.

Serious answer split up your units, maximize bowmen early game and flying units late game.

Artillery helps if the enemy clumps up. If you want them to do that, don't split your forces and have a good ol fashion siege. Don't dye of dysentery.

Shadows and fog are the worst for the campaign map. Turn fog down. Shadows are iffy. Trees are also pretty bad but you already did that.

A mod will come out later that removes fog entirely which will really help.

One thing to keep in mind is if a kislev unit is in a formation and you told it to shoot while someone is meleeing it, the front line will melee and the rest will try to shoot.

I find if I go wide and have more melee, I can tie down everything and win. Bonus points for cav.

I thought this was about as safe a pre order as it could get with as much shared DNA as there is between it and the first two games in the series, but honestly I borderline regret playing at launch, and am thinking about setting it aside pretty soon until some combination of mods and patches make it more fun. Anybody else getting an intrusive thought that they could just fire up Warhammer 2 and probably be having more fun yet? I'm still looking forward to trying the multiplayer campaigns (and honestly wish I could try Darkness and DIsharmony solo), but I'm not going to tell my friends to play until there are some fixes.

Their infantry hold perfectly fine but they have functionally no offensive power so in situations where infantry having offensive power is a big benefit(wall fights, street fights) they fall short. Cathay takes a lot longer to do the settlement/siege battles that comprise 70% of your fights, which is unfortunate.

You need to use more yin.

One offense, one defense.

Their crossbows do an incredible amount of damage.

So an infantry with a crossbow behind it in a street fight is incredibly strong.
