I feel like people are being too pessimistic with regards to the combined map. Mortal Empires came out nearly a month after Warhammer 2 was released. I feel like CA is very aware of how much their community wants it. There's no way they haven't been working on it in tandem with the rest of the game. But we'll know for sure when they put out the roadmap.

I finally have had some time to sit down and play and I managed to get a few turns in as Skrag before the god awful pathing in settlements made me swear out-loud. Units dropping orders seems to be a thing again too, despite guard mode being disabled. Now I'm 46 turns into a Tzeench campaign and just really not enjoying this Realms of Chaos garbage at all. It also feels like whoever came up with the stupid port income nerf is now the person designing game 3 economies, everything feels tight in an artificial way.

What I don't understand is how a rough launch has translated into the Blood DLC being delayed. To me that is the only thing that is a little concerning.

I just don't understand why, after all the criticism Race for the Vortex received, that they went and made another narrative campaign with all of the same issues plus a whole bunch more.

That is easily hundreds of hours spent on something that was destined to be dropped the moment the combined map released. It's not like they were unaware how lame the Vortex was, they admitted themselves that lessons were learned (obviously not), hell post-launch DLC didn't even interact with the Vortex.

Reading the chat in Legends Medieval 2 stream made me realize that CA will never make a historical game involving that time period again. It just draws some of the worst kinds of people to it.

I think you balance ranged power by improving the state of melee infantry, not by kneecapping cool rear end missile units.

- Campaign level ammo replenishment, with a post battle option to replenishment some n% of ammo, encamp stance and such in enemy territory.
- Buff infantry shields across the board - shooting directly into the front of a shielded unit should not be nearly as effective as it currently is.
- Boost melee infantry replenishment for all races. They are by their nature going to take losses, they should be able to replenish faster than their ranged counterparts.

Ranged units are less likely to take model losses in a battle, but unlike melee units can fully regain all of their combat potential even after a defeat.

Granted its probably a bad idea, because it'll be another system the AI wouldn't be able to handle.

edit: I would rather be punished with more strategic decisions than watch individual units get turned into garbage because ranged power outclasses most other units.

Are there any general tips for making settlement battles not horrific slogs where towers mulch a bunch of my units? So far my most successful strategy has been downloading a mod that disables real time building.

Also settlement maps suck so much. So much scenery clutter that blocks LOS and fucks up pathing and makes the narrow spaces even more brain braking for the AI to deal with, all while being loving enormous.

the old wood elf tree line was perfect - two separate branches for ranged and melee, each tree started with a command ability (eyes of kurnos and call of the woods) and the actual redline skills were unit agnostic and applied to the lords army.

also command abilities should appear on the side of screen with global abilities, gently caress having to micro my lord around

it be nice if they added more hero actions and specialization skills like the kislev heroes get at rank 20. it also be nice if heroes could have multiple hero-to-own-army actions to choose from.

empire captain - increase mobility or boost recruit rank
at rank 20 choose 1
  • marshal the men: +2 local recruitment,-25% recruitment cost
  • for the emperor: immune to psychology (lords army)
  • rapid deployment: reduce reinforcement time by 33%
  • expeditious encampment: reduce movement cost of encamp to 25%
warrior priest - increase replenishment or reduce attrition
witch hunter - improve campaign line of sight or reduce local enemy army movement
wizard - find magical items or channeling to boost local winds
master engineer - :smith:

get rid of all the campaign level hero actions, id rather heroes augment my own armies rather then idling around high income provinces or getting dry humped by enemy heroes for 40+ turns

gotta say cathay is great and cool but ca are really bad at being consistent across the board with number go up stuff

like the celestial compass has some incredibly good bonuses that cost nothing and are just click button to max out - meanwhile the empires 1 green button 4 red button mechanic gives you like +2 growth and +1% income on tuesdays if you dont gently caress up but if you gently caress up its -5 this and -10% that.

all they need to is to have some of their buildings and units re-tiered

ushabti at tier 2 and bows at tier 3, skullapult at tier 2, archers from main building chain instead of barracks - everything else is fine really

edit: and add a crafting thingy for hero capacity too
