Red and Black posted:Explaining something and why it happened isn't justifying it. I'm not sure what's hard to understand about that. I find it disingenuous that you're spending so much time focused on Russia's legitimate security concerns when half their military has been moved to the border of a country they formerly controlled and partially reinvaded 8 years ago. There is nothing close to a NATO equivalent for that kind of aggression.

Red and Black posted:I mean, Russia is well within its rights to move its troops around inside of Russia. Also I don't think the claimed 100,000 troops is quite "half" of the Russian army I don't think NATO has ever massed troops on the border of the modern Russian state; it would probably be a legitimate security concern if they did. Is the concentration of Russian troops on the border not a legitimate security concern for Ukraine?

Thanks for posting this. From the automatic google translation of the page: quote:At the same time, Ukraine has now concentrated half of the army’s personnel in the Donbass and is shelling the militias, including with the use of prohibited equipment. There's any number of things to pick apart here but I find the bolded particularly interesting given that the US, UK, and Canada have all withdrawn their instructors out of the country for some mysterious reason.

I don't know if the Daily Beast is a reputable source, but one of their correspondents is saying that Wagner mercenaries who have regularly been killing civilians in Central African Republic are being withdrawn from that country. https://twitter.com/PhilipObaji/status/1493984585989902342

I really hope Russia backs down for the sake of all the soldiers and civilians who will suffer if there's a renewed conflict. It's depressing that there's been zero sign of that so far.

https://twitter.com/ragipsoylu/status/1494788414205579265 Ukraine sure has bad timing in waiting to strike the separatists until the exact moment that Russia has a solid majority of their military right outside their borders.

Life comes at you fast. I sincerely hope nothing happens for the sake of everyone involved, but from everything I've seen I just can't imagine the Russian military goes home tomorrow.

Knightsoul posted:Don't you think it's been madness to expand east NATO presence in the last 20 years, and then expect Russia to stay calm and not retaliate some way? The Eastern European nations joined NATO willingly and had plenty of motivation to do so after 50 years of Russian occupation. What gives Russia the right to retaliate against sovereign states that join defensive alliances?
