He isn't pro-west/EU, he is anti-Putin. How much he would actually do to work with EU, not undermine it like the current regime, remains to be seen.

Well, he could try starting with one where randomly attacking neighboring countries every 5-10 years and annexing parts of them is strictly "a bad thing that needs to stop", not something you might do if internal politics show that it isn't too large dip in the percentages.

That sandwich quote is damning enough because he clearly does not rule out wars of aggression as a popularity boost, if he/someone in Russia cooks up a good enough excuse and there is an opportunity to do so. Exactly the same imperial poo poo Russia is already doing, and has been doing since 18th century.

I don't think we'll find common ground if you don't think that significant events that happened in a person's life can shift their politics

The problem with your argument is that North and Eastern Europe* countries bordering to Russia aren't ever going to rally behind someone who has historically been OK with the wars of conquest and belittling the sovereignty of the bordering countries. Yes, we have seen those people and it always ends up the same way.

Unless Russia provides a leader that actually has an agenda to stop those land-grabs, reforms the country, and ends the constant openly aggressive policies, including social media influence and hostile investments* towards its neighbors, it does not matter what that person's internal policies are.

Yeah, the city of Kahramanmaras looks like it was recently liberated by the Russians.

I am actually really proud of both Finnish and Swedish governments that it took them less than 12 hours to declare that they would help, no decency from Erdogan, or paybacks expected or required.

So Finland finally does the welfare trick where we declare a war to Norway on a Norwegian bank holiday morning, and surrender the same afternoon demanding to be fully annexed.

EDIT: Shame that the Danish went with Yugoslavia, we could have had a sweet "No Sweden" Union going on.

Latvia deserved it. As did Canada with the gold. Germany was good but underdog story goes only so far.

Unlike the Finnish team, the only reason they got to die in the playoffs was because there were enough "also participants". Absolutely an egg of a team from out national hero.

Shouldn't these type of changes in Poland make Orban at least somewhat worried that his little benefits scheme against EU is in danger of crapping out, or at least make him ease on the "openly on the Russian's side on the war"-politics?

Anyway, Ireland probably would have to send its 50 troops to protected Greece. Probably, there will be lawyers involved.

EU defense clause has not been tested and its such a great protection that both Finland and Sweden decided that it isn't going to cut it when Russia lost its mind.

The central problem is that there is no clear definition of "aid and assist it by all the means in their power", so "yeah we cannot afford to send anything and since we weren't attacked we cannot legally mobilize our troops so here is a sea container full of expired rations" is technically aiding by all means available.

Cuisine wars are the stupidest arguments. Putting a pineapple in a pizza might be a war crime in Italy but who cares, the entire Nordics are enjoying the pepperoni/chicken, pineapple and blue cheese pizza because it works. What are the Italians going to do about it, write an angry letter to EU and try to ban it?

EDIT: And pineapple is ananas, its not from pines, its not an apple, and it should not be named universally as pineapple because some drunken hicks from Southport UK though that it kinda looks like something that came out from a pine tree.

One could also improve the highway infrastructure to reduce the accidents but oops, if you don't live within the daily commute distance of the capital your concerns are invalid.

At least that's how it goes here in Finland. 150+ km from Helsinki the highway infrastructure turns aggressively 1980's unless its a single-digit highway.
