Unsurprisingly that's the only direction they can evacuate, so I sincerely hope there's some protocol in place to let them through. Talked with a coworker today. She has family, including kids, in western Ukraine. It's a small town, far from frontlines, but there is a small military aer stip nearby that got hit with missiles. She left today for the Slovakian border to get her family out of there and hopefully others too.

Speak of the devil, he's just shared his views on how the Czech Republic should respond to Russia: quote:Pravý Blok And translated: quote:Ukraine is the final warning!!! It's not enough to reinstate mandatory conscription, which we always used to have, and which Ukraine still has to this day. Such an army - led by treasonous undercover agents - would do nothing to protect us from Russia! If you don't get that, just take a look at Ukraine! The only kind of army capable of protecting us from Russia would be armed with nuclear weapons, formed according to the Swiss model, and stripped of all the traitors on the payroll of Russian KGB and GRU. This means stripped of politicians, journalists, generals and high ranking officers serving in our armed forces! Nothing short of this is going to save us!

Xarn posted:Old school handling of foreign names in Czech was to just append -ová to the surname of women, so that it had a recognizable shape that you could use to form different grammar forms. Nowadays we don't do that until we need the suffix to change to carry meaning, and to use different suffixes according to the name. It's a tough dilemma, on the one hand I don't like adding "ová" to foreign names that technically don't need it, on the other hand using raw English names with no declensions (e.g. "viděl jsi ten nový film s Amy Adams?")is such an insufferably ostentatious dipshit poseur move, id rather slap myself than do it.

But compared to some other national cuisines, I think Hungarian is only moderately spicy, but probably still spicier than other V4 cuisines. I mean the spiciness level of other V4 countries is literally 0. I personally think the mass infatuation with over the top spiciness is largely performative and obnoxious and to the detriment of food culture in general, but then I get even more annoyed when I make something with a molecule of chili in it and suddenly everybody freaks out that is inedible, often before even tasting it. BTW Hungarians make very good hot sauces imo.

The Czech Republic has finished counting the results in the first round of presidential elections, the frontrunners are Andrej Babiš, the former PM and hyper wealthy agro-baron, and Petr Pavel, the squinting former general, who is probably going to rally the rest of the electorate around him in the second round, which would cement Czech position as staunchly anti-Russian in the current conflict. I don't think the intent is that deep, they are simply banking on the fact that 99% of the people in Eastern Europe have literally zero idea about Western politics and culture outside of the mass monoculture, so they have no retort to stupid claims like that. Especially among piss voters.
