Sorry for posting in the other thread earlier, I wasn't yet up to speed.

I've donated to the Austrian and Ukrainian Red Cross, and gifted This War of Mine to a bunch of friends.

No tag.

e. since you're keeping a tally in the title, about €319 total, plus €20 gas money for our goon at the Polish-Ukranian border.

I'm not sure if this is appropriate for this thread, but if any of you want a matching piece of clothing to go with your gang tags, these keffiyehs are made in Palestine and have a nice bright blue and yellow color scheme. Check the last picture in the top link, the others don't really do it justice.

Maybe this should be added to the OP:

Meduza is an independent Russian news site based in Latvia. They're still operating, and tech-savvy Russians can still access them through various means, but they're now cut off from 90% of their funding, because Russians can no longer support them.

https://meduza.io/en

quote:

There’s one challenge for which we are not prepared, however. Ninety percent of the donations we receive come through the payment systems Stripe and PayPal. Our readers in Russia want to keep supporting us, but now their bank cards are being rejected. Additionally, economic sanctions against Russia’s financial sector create serious risks for our crowdfunding, forcing us to prepare for the worst.

We are relying especially on you, our international audience, to help sustain our work.

My family cleaned up my grandmother's house over the weekend (she died this summer), and today my brother and I picked up two Ukrainian families from the airport who were on vacation in Mexico when the war started. They were obviously exhausted, and the reality of the situation hasn't quite sunk in. They're from Kharkiv. Apparently, they're still considering trying to make their way back, because their parents and pets are there, and their suburbs hasn't been damaged.

Any goon advice what more I/we can do to help them get settled, and process things psychologically? I don't know how overtaxed official support is right now. We're going to help them contact the Ukrainian expat community tomorrow, and see if they have decided on future plans. Unfortunately, the house is out in the boonies, so public transport to the city is a bit of a hassle. At least Ukrainian refugees travel for free.

openDemocracy is a left-leaning journalism platform with a good Ukraine, Russia and Belarus coverage by local journalists. They're currently running a fundraiser, so have a look at their work and decide if you want to support it.
