Seasons get underway in a month or two, so I thought we could use a shiny new thread.

Canadian Premier League

Technically the top of the pyramid for Canadian soccer, even though Vancouver Whitecaps, Toronto FC, and CF Montréal aren't a part of it, and won't be for a while. Currently has 8 clubs with 2 more planned in Saskatoon, and Windsor. RIP Edmonton.

Current champs are Forge FC.

League 1 Ontario/Première Ligue de Soccer du Québec/League 1 BC

Provincial semi-pro leagues that send 1 team each to the Canadian Championship every year. L1BC sends their first club to the CanChamp this year, and L1O has announced pro/rel is coming in 2024.

Current champs are FC Laval, Vaughn Azzuri, and TSS FC Rovers.

EDIT:

Wippersnapper posted:

League1 Canada announced today as an organizational alignment with League1 Ontario, League1 BC and the PLSQ in Quebec. Looks like the Canadian Premier League had a hand in organizing it and they've gone as far as to rebrand L1BC and L1O with PLSQ changing it's branding for next year. More organization within Canada seems like a good thing to me. On the other hand, their website is awful to say the least.

https://twitter.com/League1Canada/status/1509602310791516166?s=20&t=8bYH5r_BIt3KG84BtRGiuQ

United Soccer League

Tiers 2-4 in the American pyramid; made up of USL Championship, USL League One, and USL League 2. MLS serves as parent clubs for the time being, but that partnership is on the way out and pro/rel is announced for 2026.

Current champs are San Antonio FC, South Georgia Tormenta FC, and Ventura County Fusion.

National Independent Soccer Association

Also tier 3. They have Detroit City FC.don't have Detroit City anymore so who cares.

Other Leagues

Canadian Soccer League - Does Not Exist. Glorified Mob Front.

NPSL - Don't know

UPSL - Don't know

Detroit fans came to Louisville when we played them in the Open Cup a few years back when we played the game at Bellermine and they acted genuinely surprised no one wanted to fight them or indulge their delusions that they're God's gift to soccer.

NGS is mostly just extremely loving obnoxious on Soccer Twitter and always brought fairly decent sized groups of DCFC supporters to away game, smoke swearing and all. Honestly I fuckin' love it because of how upset other team's supporters get for no reason whatsoever (Twitter is not a reason)

My MLS team New England Revolution goes to MLS Cup Final 5 times and shits the bed 5 times.

My old school true and only club, Tampa Bay Rowdies, have gone to NASL Soccer Bowl/USL Championship final 5 times, only poo poo the bed 3 times - twice in original NASL, once last year in USL, losing the 2021 final at home. In 2020 we should have also hosted the final but some players came down with Covid and the the final was cancelled.

Rowdies have won their conference two season in a row now; hopefully coach Neill Collins can make it three.

I'm not up to date with what is going on but these podcasts will help when I get around to listening.

I am in New York City for my honeymoon at the end of April. Is there a good website that outlines local fixtures below MLS level to see if there is a game on when I am there? I could do NYC FC, but something a bit more local would be interesting

Thank you guys

MLS NY Red Bulls play Portland around that time (May 7)

Going down in leagues, USL League NY Red Bulls II play Tampa Bay on the 23rd.

You have to go to Newark/Harrison NJ for those, but I’m pretty sure there’s a train.

If you want to get down and dirty, there are a bunch of USL League 2 around but I think they are just starting this season in May:

There are some New York guys in the MLS thread that might be more help.

Ah dammit. I’m in NY from April 21st to 25th, so a bit early for those fixtures you linked to. Our last night in New York is NYC FC’s home match against Philadelphia but we fancied something a bit more lower league. Thank you for your help.

It's going to be Championship West and Championship East because CPL teams pay more for flights than they do on salaries, but yeah pretty much.

Anyone else's team make it to Round 3 of the USOC? Detroit City FC is hosting MLS-side Columbus Crew on 4/19 @ 7:30 PM, will definitely be worth watching considering how much we over at NGS hate both MLS and Ohio!

Rowdies fans should return the favor from Orlando fans from years ago and set their stadium on fire and punch some kids. For nostalgia.

I'm not expecting an upset but it would be nice to see the Rowdies defeat Orlando. Rowdies haven't upset an MLS team in the US Open Cup since defeating Seattle Sounders in 2013.

Rowdies are "meh" right now in USL Championship so I don't see any upsets in the offing.

Louisville City are playing St. Louis City SC 2, coached by our former head coach John Hackworth, whose contract was somewhat mysteriously "mutually terminated" 1 game in to last season.

His protégé is doing great though and we're off to the best start in club history, so taking care of business against a lower division team shouldn't be an issue, it's just gonna be awkward.

We've also got dudes loaned out to Northern Colorado Hailstorm who are going to Real Salt Lake, and FC Tucson who are hosting California United Strikers FC, and uhhh best of luck!

Detroit City FC plays MLS-side Columbus Crew tomorrow in Round 3 of the US Open Cup. Crew is visiting and Northern Guard plans to give them the welcoming someone from Oh*o deserves. Detroit City beat the Crew 2-1 yessss. I don’t care if it was a B squad, tbh. I’ve been going to matches since 2014 when they were an amateur club, the growth in those years has been nuts.
This is a super thin roster, so this may end up torching the USL season if they can’t stay healthy and/or have to keep running themselves ragged, but… not sure I care at the moment, this rules.

As someone who was in the Supporters Section, it was loving WORTH IT. If we get to play FC Cinci at home, I want the club to go ALL IN because this is our one chance to defeat our oldest enemy, the state of Ohio.
