While coming up with imaginary scenarios to get angry about, I had the idea of someone—probably privileged and white—trying crack cocaine on purpose just to prove that addiction can be overcome on willpower alone and thus prove that drug addicts are lazy and contemptuous and that all poor people need to do is lift themselves up by their bootstraps. Have you or has anyone you know tried crack for the sole purpose of proving they can resist getting addicted? How did it work out for them? I imagine not well but I'd like to hear how badly it went. It doesn't have to be crack. Heroin, meth or any other highly-addictive substance would also be interesting to hear about.

Yes, actually. I started using meth 5 years ago with the intention of demonstrating how easily a powerful willpower like my own could overcome the addiction. I've concluded I'm not yet "fully addicted" yet and therefore have no plans to stop using meth in the immediate future. I don't want to make the challenge too easy.

i smoked heroin with my college roommate. we never had a hookup before until he had this manager at jimmy johns. somewhat in line with the thread, i remember two weekends of extreme partying, like waking up on the ground poo poo. one sunday morning we were just like "yeah never again on that" and then he got a different job and that was that

I got some percocets when I hosed up my ankle a long time ago and I loved them so much I was literally thinking "I wish I could feel like this for the rest of my life" and "this stuff makes everything more interesting I bet I'd be super productive if I was always on it" and that is when I learned that I have an addictive personality and now I don't go near the stuff because I WILL fall down that hole if I do.

I read about a dude who tried heroin for fun and thought he could control it. Turns out to no ones surprise that he totally ruined his life. I would have to look up the thread it was on reddit. Anyway don't do highly addictive drugs, its a bad idea. Just smoke weed.

I have I think a post that is genuinely near to what you are talking about. Only once I went in to the room at the party where they were keeping the door shut. There was a big semicircle of people and they were smoking cocaine. Some guy was treating everyone; I was with my 1st boyfriend who was a sweetheart stoner everyone liked. When it came to my turn I took a tiny little hit and felt it right away. The feeling must have faded fast because I remember before it came around again me hoping so much that I would get to take another hit. I turned to my boyfriend and said I think we should leave and he said OK. We left the party actually and in the car I admitted that I was already craving another hit before the pipe had gotten back around to us and we should never do that again and he agreed and we never did and I never did again in my entire life. Years later I had the opportunity multiple times and I never did. *whew* True story Ended up loving my life up but not that way

I've done coke properly like 5-6 times? I've never had a craving after the fact. I don't know how I'm not addicted (to that or smokes) addiction to booze and smokes runs deep in my family. I'm addicted to chips though.

i visited a friend at college and his friend was roommates with a coke dealer. i ended up staying two weeks longer than i planned. haven't done it since, pretty much learned all i need to know about how it changes me
