That’s the power of the Bolt Axe. And Elise’s absurd magic growth. Has to happen early or else you can’t get her Axe rank up quick enough on reasonably soft enemies.

I think Zoran's past videos was the main reason I used Wyvern Elise in my LP. There were definitely a small amount of people reclassing Elise when the game first came out, but like Nosferatu Odin I don't really think it became the meta for a while and I never considered using either until I saw someone else doing it. I wonder if people would have held Odin in higher regard if Kilma's Nosferatu tome was droppable?

It's very weird to see Arthur getting good levels and Effie getting bad ones. I noticed he even got luck on his 10% growth...

That's it! No more hiding in tomato crates! It's time to show that idiota Germany how a real nation fights!

For pasta~! CHARGE!

Isn't Elise really good on Malig Knight? FLying tanky magic unit seems a good niche.
E: of course getting there is the trick

Lol at the tribe rebelling for apparently no reason because all it took to chill down was Corrin NOT putting them down by the sword. Like, throw a line about sitting down and listening to their complaints and grievances; there's no need to actually show them, just fade to black the negotiations, but do something to sell us on it.

(The funny alternative is that they're fake smiling waiting for the dragon idiot will go away, then they're resuming their rebellion a month or two down the line)

I definitely remember people laughing at me en mass in the general fe thread when I found out how good wyvern elise was in a gimmick run right after release.

Also, you've got some bizarre units right now. An Elise that gains defense? An Odin with a hefty attack stat? It's madness in here.

Oh, I understand the reasons as to why Elise works. Her bases as a wyvern are enough to function before the Bolt Axe and Malig is very natural for her.

I’m just saying that the idea of reclassing her is really funny.

Having played Awakening, I pretty much tried Nosferatu Odin immediately. It’s just so nice how many problems it solves.

I don't generally reclass Elise because I like having 2 healers. Nosferatu Odin solves way too many problems though. It would be a deep challenge to play without him at this point.

it's still left a little too vague even with the rewrite, but the idea is that corrin's begging for a little more time to root out the source of nohr's problems, because he's managed to connect the dots between his father taking divine inspiration from an underworld dragon, the sword that tried to kill him, and the general state of the nation

the part where the ice tribe is both suffering enough to outwardly rebel against an absolute dictator like garon but also willing to keep suffering on corrin's word is a pretty broad tonal issue that a lot of media gets wrong - because the narratively important part is how the protagonist reacts to the situation, not the situation itself

I'm looking forward to seeing what Nyx does. I'm sure this has no effect on her actual viability, but it does annoy me a little that Nyx's growths are just Elise's but worse with the sole exception of having 10% higher skill (and then her base skill is so bad anyway that it doesn't matter). It's also funny how the underleveled mage who specialises in strength, skill, and luck ends up being leagues ahead of the (relatively) high level mage who's best stats are magic and speed, it's almost the complete opposite of how FE usually works.

Keldulas

It’s interesting to note that about Nyx. It almost feels like she’s an experiment to see how far you can push ‘Luck and Skill doesn’t matter. Turns out that the critical point there is when you can’t manage 100% accuracy with the most accurate tome.

I honestly feel like it's her bulk that let's her down less than her skill. In FE6, Gonzales has basically the same stat lineup, but with a stupid high hp pool and gba dodge calculations so that when he gambles on his haymakers a single miss doesn't spell death. Nyx on the other hand is made of wet tissue paper and will get instantly obliterated if anything goes wrong, which.... is not very desirable on a gambling focused unit.

But yeah, skill and luck aren't useless, they just fall off hard once you get enough and 99% of fe units will have enough. The difference between 20 and 30 str/spd/defense is miles wider than the difference between 20 and 30 skill. But the difference between 0 and 10 skill/luck is just as massive as the big stats.

Decided to watch this over the course of the last few days, glad I decided to do so. That explanation about how offensive staff targeting and how you exploited it works floored me. Very detailed information. Can't wait to see how you handle the infamous chapter 10.

Been enjoying the changes the mod makes to the plot so far, although I do have to say, Garon shifting his attitude so suddenly before reverting back again was a little over-the-top. Still, that's several steps up over vanilla Saturday Morning Cartoon Garon, so I'll take it. Been watching the cutscenes with a script open at the same time to compare the two. I also noticed unrelated to that, the recruitment conversation with Niles and Odin was changed as well - at least, it didn't match the script I was reading. Certainly going to be interesting to see where the rewrite goes.

As for my theory on the marriage choices for Corrin and why, and others seem to have come to the same conclusion: first, it MUST be a gen 2 character to accomplish the goal of having all characters be married where possible. There is a 6/6 (10/10 on Revelation) split before Kana, whose presence makes it uneven on one side. Choosing Dark Mage and male Corrin narrows it to two practical options, and choosing it based off how the class inheritance system has a "backup" built in narrows it down to the only gen 2 character who starts as a Dark Mage herself.

Because this map is full of identical brainless monsters to kill, the play-by-play gets kind of boring. Instead of keeping up that commentary the whole time, I'm also covering some other topics, especially our medium-term strategic plans.

So GGG just kind of... left the mission where you recruit Mozu to join the people that just killed her villiage to the man (sans her). And it's still nice and vague about Corrin's group and their goals because it's the same dialogue on both routes.

Every time you put one of these up I'm amazed again at all the planning that went into this.

These Fates LPs really do make me sad that there's basically no follow-up to Fates. We can talk about how the writing is a disaster, or how the maps of Birthright/Revelation are kind of insipid and awful. But all the minutiae with the core gameplay design and tweaks shows that it was made by people that actually made a good effort to mixing it up. Conquest shows what the gameplay could've actually been, even if it has its own problems. And there's no follow-up. Three Houses doesn't count since it went back to formula in a lot of a ways, took mechanics from different Fire Emblems, and went in a different direction with the design.

It's a bit sad, is all.

While I loved Three Houses, and I enjoyed its freeform class system, I think I'd like it if a future game went back to basically Fates's class system. Each character having a base class with branching promotions, an alternate class with promotions, and then being able to learn classes from people they have close bonds with is really cool. It gives each unit more personality while also adding some cool mechanical spice to the support system. Especially with the way the series is leaning more and more into supports and strong characterization, having supports be a part of the class change system is neat.

The class system, pair up and weapon triangle are my favorite aspects of Conquest. It was all just really well polished compared to Awakening and I really hope we see all of it reused in future games.

Keldulas

Mechanically, Fates is incredibly sharp. Where it falls down is Birthright's/Revelation's map design, and the fact that Conquest gets some significant 'misses' due to how experimental it could get with its design. But.... that only makes it more of a pity that Fates mechanics aren't expanded on because it's a strong core.

I'm currently doing some Revelations just to play some different maps on the Fates system. It's... not AS bad as I thought it'd be, even if it's still overall terrible. But given that I've played FE6 recently, maybe I'm just more forgiving on crap map design atm.

Replicate Pair-Up seems kind of like a silly combo, because the opportunity cost for the backpack not gaining that much XP is kind of mitigated by not caring about the XP of the unit. Kind of nifty.

Any level 15 skill is busted in the early game, but I think Replicate might be the most broken thing. Especially since you also copy any weapons.

Without cheating I can kill every unit on Chapter 10 except Takumi. I've just never been able to route him as well.

Poor Selena, if only her personal skill could have existed in her home game of Awakening. Maybe if she had something more reliable like doing 75% damage on dual strikes (instead of 50%) she could be better?
