I saw this video in my recommended and had no idea it was going to be an LP on here too... I'm not great at following video LPs but I'll do my best, this looks really interesting!

How are you handling second gen units with regards to them needing to reach level 5 promoted? Given how you're going out of your way to make things difficult I assume you're not just going to Offspring Seal them and then consider them trained and done?

I notice Hans no longer calls his troops "cannon fodder". I think Xander's response to Ryoma is new too? It's not the focus of this LP but seeing the GGG script changes will be fun too although the one cutscene change I do remember seeing from this mod years back did include laslow making a random anime reference for no real reason, so maybe my hopes aren''t too high

Wow that's a much better line than "technically an adult". I guess there's no non-creepy way to say "hey this character who looks like a child is actually 18 and therefore totally okay to marry", but the localisation could have phrased it literally any other way... Xander's line about the tribes is odd too, it's nice to see him try to justify Garon's actions but it really doesn't give me "Good Guy Garon" vibes. I'm guessing we're not meant to take that at face value anyway.

For how long this game's "tutorial" chapters are, I don't think they do a very good job at teaching the player how to play well. Like you said it's weird that the game teaches you to attack someone who could attack and kill you in return on enemy phase. If you pay attention to the damage you're dealing and taking I suppose you could also view this chapter as a tutorial on personal skills, but if I were a new FE player I think I would see that and just assume that damage values in combat are slightly random?

Your chapter commentary is great by the way. I've sped through these first 6 maps so many times that they're just white noise to me now, so it's nice to hear something that makes me stop and think about them again!

Woah, that was a very clean clear for Chapter 2. I never really learned how to predict who will attack who in that map what with the huge amount of 1-2 range weapons and potential for dual strikes, so I always play it very slowly and turtly.

This is probably my least favourite of all the pre-split maps, although I don't really like any of them. There's way too many 2 range enemies and Corrin can only attack at 1 range, plus the boss has way too much avoid with no reliable way to hit him. Dealing with the enemies is a little less tedious if you've got Jakob instead of Felicia at least.

I had no idea offensive and defense pair-ups gave different bonuses to hit & dodge. I think that explains some things I never really understood...

I'll be honest, I was really hoping for a Kaze bosskill considering how great his stregnth was here. No idea if that's even possible without extreme levels of cheese though! I also only just realised after watching this video that the boss here doesn't use Swordmaster animations, I think they've got the Merc/Hero animations instead despite that not being their class.

I wish you could have your servant in this map event if it doesn't really make story sense. Felicia and Jakob would have much more fun here than they do in Chapter 3.

Hmm, I wonder who Corrin's going to marry? Given past videos I feel like I probably know the answer, but the talent you picked wasn't the one I was expecting...

I had no idea your servant couldn't work in buildings while they're being your assistant. I always thought it was a bit unfair that Jakob is one of the best cooks in the game while Felicia is one of the worst, but then again I also don't bother with the Mess Hall until it's fully upgraded and by then I'd have both of them anyway.

I really like this chapter, I think it's a great introduction to how Conquest works. Having all the enemies have the same stats but different skills is a good way to ease the player into paying attention to checking enemy skills, and the chokepoints are set up so it's very easy to perform dual strikes. Having you start alone in a swamp surrounded by enemies also sets the tone of Conquest pretty well, especially in contrast to Birthright...

Are you going to keep who's marrying who a surprise until it actually happens? I have some guesses but I might keep them to myself or put them behind spoiler tags.

I think Zoran's past videos was the main reason I used Wyvern Elise in my LP. There were definitely a small amount of people reclassing Elise when the game first came out, but like Nosferatu Odin I don't really think it became the meta for a while and I never considered using either until I saw someone else doing it. I wonder if people would have held Odin in higher regard if Kilma's Nosferatu tome was droppable?

It's very weird to see Arthur getting good levels and Effie getting bad ones. I noticed he even got luck on his 10% growth...

I'm looking forward to seeing what Nyx does. I'm sure this has no effect on her actual viability, but it does annoy me a little that Nyx's growths are just Elise's but worse with the sole exception of having 10% higher skill (and then her base skill is so bad anyway that it doesn't matter). It's also funny how the underleveled mage who specialises in strength, skill, and luck ends up being leagues ahead of the (relatively) high level mage who's best stats are magic and speed, it's almost the complete opposite of how FE usually works.

I'm looking forward to the inevitable Chapter 10 rout. I've never managed to do it myself...

Poor Selena, if only her personal skill could have existed in her home game of Awakening. Maybe if she had something more reliable like doing 75% damage on dual strikes (instead of 50%) she could be better?

Seeing a Takumi kill is very satisfying, I still haven't managed it yet. Maybe I should build my next Conquest run around making a Corrin who can dunk on him and this map as efficiently as possible.

Setsuna (and also Rinkah) get to have the special enemy only 1-2 range weapons because they don't move on easier difficulties. I never even noticed that Setsuna had a bow and not a yumi though, weird.

I see they changed Azama's generic boss quote ever so slightly so he doesn't call you out for resorting to violence when that's what Hoshido is also doing... But I feel like it's perfectly in character for Azama to be a hypocrite. He's probably just winding you up knowing pefectly well that they started it by kidnapping the Rainbow Sage.

I'm looking forward to Chapter 12! It might be my favourite map in all of Conquest but I always end up finishing it by the skin of my teeth, so seeing it (presumably) get fully routed will be fun.

SirSystemError posted:

Yeah, that is one thing I've noticed too, all those 80+%s that have to land that do end up landing. Pondering how many late resets happened because of things like that. Or unexpected crits.

Also randomly, I kind of want to see this challenge done on Birthright too. Not for Birthright itself because its design is so much worse than Conquest, but strictly to see how you'd beat Chapter 12 Garon under the conditions of no grinding

I've been able to rout that map on Lunatic (including Xander) by loading Saizo up with tonics and defensive auras and sticking him on a 1 tile chokepoint, but it took a huge amount of turns and resulted in almost all the EXP going towards one unit (who got like 1 EXP per kill towards the end) so I don't imagine it would be a very good solution for this sort of challenge.

This is my favourite map of Conquest but I've never actually used the dragon vein on Lunatic because the prospect of dealing with all those enemies at once is too scary. I always just snake around the outside and barely manage to kill the boss or escape with a turn or 2 to spare. Maybe I should try this strat the next time I play...

I agree that Leo doesn't really feel like a little brother, and it's probably for the same reason you said.... Although I kind of get the same with Takumi. Maybe Corrin's naivety and lack of knowledge about everything makes them feel like a younger sibling? That and them starting at level 1.

It there's so many FE screenshot LPs I want to keep up with but I don't really have the energy right now to read anything substantial :(. These videos are getting super long but they're also very relaxing, having everything explained to me out loud makes me not need to use my brain even if it's very complicated.

This video feels like it was just as much an excuse to show off your knowledge of nautical terminology as it was your strategy...

This is a fun map, but this is also very much the point around which I start leaving my units paired up instead of going for dual strikes. Conquest is my favourite FE but my biggest gripe about it is how difficult it can be to predict what's going to happen on enemy phase, between enemy dual strikes, skills, debuffs, and the AI.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with Shura. Maybe he'll get to kill Kotaro...

I'm glad to see Shura get his revenge. To think his story ends with him either getting benched or made into shoes 99% of the time... Getting to see Saizo's boss quote (and his boss defeat quote, which is really rare even in other FE games) would have been even sweeter, but I guess that would have just been a waste of EXP.

Camilla reaching level 5 just in time to get crucial damage on that ninja was great, as was Mozu using her as a wall. Somehow it never occured to me to have someone on the other side of the invincible 1-2 ninja-proof roadblock.

Conquest does give you a lot of ways around high avoid, but Kotaro really shouldn't be on a throne imo. He might be my least favourite boss in the entire series, either him or that one Ninja in Chapter 3. The only way he could be more annoying is if they gave him Rend Heaven and a high crit weapon.
