The protagonist of Enderal is a refugee fleeing sectarian violence in their home country. After getting screwed over by their smuggler they wash up on the country of Enderal, an island based nation which used to be the dominant political and military power in the region but has since decided it was better off isolating itself from the world and replacing its government with fascist theocrats. All the while there's an end-times prophecy going around that everyone kind of accepts to be true but the most powerful seem to be either ignoring or actively encouraging Then Cthulhu eats everyone
