I already said that I do believe City is guilty of the poo poo they were investigated for, it's literally just the timing of the story before a big game that's a bit weird. Not sure what the issue is with that

I am a spectacularly bad poster and everyone in the Schadenfreude thread hates my guts.
I'm a City fan m9 and I think you're barking well up the wrong tree. Why would Der Speigel give a gently caress about our domestic match? If we were playing a German team in the CL then you might have the beginnings of a half arsed point.

I dont think its too much of a stretch that if youre looking to impose maximum pressure on a shady entity like Man City that you would therefore time your release of information to coincide with the biggest match of their season so far.

Suggesting that a newspaper would hold a story until it would have a maximum impact isn't crazy or insane at all. Y'all are being real weird about this.

i don't find it outlandish that someone would sit on a story and then release it at a time thought to be more destructive or higher profile, but i also dont know if or why der spiegel might have it out for city

They're the paper that broke the story originally a few years back, they didn't like the decision by CAS, the guy who "hacked" the emails for them was charged in Portugal. I feel like this isn't even the first time they've rehashed old stories about City. The "why" I can't tell you but they've consistently had these stories about City. Again, I don't think City is innocent here, I think der Spiegel is publishing this at a time where it'll rile up people the most and generate a lot of clicks.

What pressure, though? Like Kevin De Bruyne is gonna miss a sitter because someone reminded him that his boss' boss' bosses are dodgy financially?

Yeah it's hard to quantify any direct impact it'll have on the players during the game but Pep has been getting questions about it in the press interview. Sometimes the press does get to the players though. That's why good managers will always try and deflect pressure away from them.

I feel like there's a difference between this and a manager deflecting pressure by blaming the ref instead of saying "yeah we lost because my players are all poo poo"

What's the chances of the Liverpool fans singing about it during the match

We're workshopping the chants now, it's come down to a choice between "Ooooooh, underage players were allegedly pressured to sign contracts with Manchester City through monetary payments, in violation of the rules, and you know you are" and "Olé, olé olé olé, club sponsors in Abu Dhabi are suspected of having provided only a portion of their payments to the club themselves, with the majority apparently coming from Sheikh Mansour himself, olé."

Jurgen Klopp, in the dressing room at halftime: all right lads, keep it up, great work so far, love the energy in the pressing. And remember what we're playing for - Roberto Mancini, who is currently the trainer for the Italian national team but spent the years from 2009 to 2013 as the trainer for ManCity, is thought to have received a significant portion of his compensation secretly by way of a fictitious consultancy contract.
