After a fair amount of playing this though not near battle pass 20 by any stretch, it definitely does feel like games heavily revolve around how good either team's Barbatos and to a lesser extent Exia are. I also agree on Turn A and Marasai feeling pretty half baked. Turn A is basically just shoot gun and punish a way overextended (and bad) melee suit, and Marasai has a weaker gun than OG Gundam with terrible hip fire, a slow and dinky range hook, a melee button with a long cooldown but nothing besides hook to back it up, and a situationally powerful ult. Either of them is pretty overshadowed by the OG Gundam or similar, and a bad one is more useless than a bad GM Sniper. Some team utility or area control would go a long way, though I fear they'll just make Marasai more hook-centric. Apart from those 4 outliers the rest of the suits feel distinct and good to play with a solid mix of team utility and damage. Methuss is probably the standout I wasn't expecting to be so great. Solid pistols and burst shot, team utility and area control, and good ability to hit the bricks when you need to.

Personally my short list of suits I hope they add are Tallgeese (or a Leo with a dober gun), Heavy Arms, Virtue, and Gerbera Tetra. Comedy option: Big Zam (small). I doubt they'll do any Build series suits, but there are a few that would be neat to see. They're definitely putting in Epyon and I'm sure it will be a terror. Really looking forward to this game even though I'm quite bad at shooters.

I kind of like the decision to not have a quick melee to get kills when you run out of ammo. It really puts a lot more emphasis on watching ammo and making shots count, and I think it works well to counterbalance the overall low ttk (which is also good).

I think their apparent hesitance to buff Marasai's rifle is a bit lame, since even with the hook improvement it's still a more niche version of Gundam. It doesn't need a worse rifle as well.

Hell yes. There is nothing in this world cooler than mecha launch sequences. The GM Sniper part is the best one.

Game still feels good even if I suck at shooters. Turn A still kinda feels garbo, though. I'm also seeing at least one drop or leaver per game so far it feels like, so hopefully that gets sorted before too long.

There's also the SEED Destiny Gouf which is orange and gets the distinction of being piloted by a character who is introduced like 1/3 of the way in and then killed in the following episode because he was voiced by TM Revolution and they couldn't afford to keep him for longer than that I guess. I think those Goufs did end up being more of a mass production replacement for Zakus, though.

Also because everything in SEED must be an acronym, it is Guardian Of Unity Forerunner.

Nobody can yet. There aren't enough triangle points and you can't cash buy them until tomorrow night.

Can't say I've encountered that.

Even playing solo I'd say about half of my matches are blowouts in either direction, which mostly just says I'm not doing a lot to contribute to my teams' wins. That's not really unexpected though since I'm not an experienced shooter player.

My worry is what it takes to unlock the suits f2p. How many blue coins do you get for completing all of the beginner challenges? What happens after? As far as I can tell, blue coins only come from the beginner challenge track.

You don't find them in supply pods and you don't get any for leveling up. There's a big chunk of it in the Battle Pass, but even that only seems to offer like one suit unlock a season? (which is in theory kinda fine if they introduce one suit per season- but still kinda slow.)

Yeah the apparent lack of communication on how we are going to be able to actually get funbux is frustrating. Personally I've accepted paying real money to unlock the new suits (assuming they're not exorbitant), but it would be nice if I had some idea of what I could do with funbux to save myself a little bit.

Yeah Virtue feels like a pretty natural choice. A beefy boy who can post up somewhere with a big shield, but rather than a chain gun for constant coverage you have a big single shot so it can't just lock down an entry.

Overall it would be cool to see a fairly even mix of grunts and hero suits.

To be fair, you shouldn't go for every revive obviously, but there are many times when people don't even try and it's totally safe. And to again be fair, there are many who do revive when the opportunity presents itself.

Zaku melee is fun and it feels good to absorb a bunch of cooldowns, but it feels pretty weak in a duel so you really need team support. I could just be not used to how its swings work, though.

chumbler
Mar 28, 2010

Yeah the rate of unlocks and monetization is not great. If there was at least a way to get a trickle of triangles that we know of outside of the beginner challenges and battle pass I'd mind it less, but "you get one suit unlock a month" is going to kill people's motivation fast and make people mad if new suits are added faster than every 5 months. F2P should at least have that trickle of progress.

Aside from that, Marasai is way better now, and really all of the new units seem good. I'd say at this point every suit has a niche or is a sufficiently different variant to be good, except Turn A. Turn A is still a jumble of abilities that don't really work together and are all worse than other options with no real defining aspect.

Boy I am totally useless with Exia. The slash is really hard to aim and in a scramble I can't hit the broad side of a barn in the 0.5 seconds I'm alive. Throwing daggers is strong, but it feels like that's kind of the wrong thing to be doing vs trying to flank the other team.

chumbler
Mar 28, 2010

Canyon point B seems really hard to attack. Granted I was on Exia and also not good at Exia, but it feels like there aren't really any sneaky entrances or sightlines that aren't easily covered.

I don't know the universe incredibly well, are there any mobile suits that, like, drastically gently caress with scale? Obviously the Sazabi is beefier than the Pale Rider but I don't feel like there's really a significant difference in scale.

Toss Devil Gundam's final form in there is what I'm saying. Or, didn't the Ein Graze tower over Barbatos?

I suppose enough of the maps have small enclosed hallways that its probably not feasible.

Nightingale, Penelope, or Xi are probably the biggest mobile suits that would still somewhat fit in the scale of a map, though they would not be able to fit through any doors. Psycho Gundam and Destroy Gundam could also maybe be counted as mobile suits, but the boundary between mobile suit and mobile armor is a bit fuzzy.

chumbler
Mar 28, 2010

Kinda feel like Pale Rider could stand to be not 1000 hp. Its damage and utility are fine and it should keep those, but just make it a bit softer to compensate.

Also wish there was a way to check your missions in spawn in case someone takes the suit you were going to play.

chumbler
Mar 28, 2010

To be fair to the Exia players, its daggers don't have falloff and hit like trucks particularly on headhots, so while it might not kill a sniper outright, it will certainly give them something to think about. That said if trying to dagger snipe is all they're doing, then yeah they're kind of wasting the suit.

Has anyone run into a bug where you respawn and can't see your gun, shoot, or use abilities until you die and respawn again? It happened to me twice in the same match tonight, and I'm guessing it was a bad desync or something because later in the match enemies suddenly teleported, but it seemed to get back to normal after that.

Also boy does casual match just seem to be blowouts in either direction, with me having little input on success or failure.

chumbler

Harbor's death pit right in the center of the B point is such a dick move and I love it. I'd like to see a payload of like playing escort for a mobile armor or Destroy Gundam or something, where the payload creates periodic danger zones by firing its big fuckoff weapon that both teams have to play around. Putting auto tracking turrets on it would be dumb, though.

The problem I generally have with most shooters is that I can either move or aim (and not terribly well at either of them), but once I'm expected to do both at the same time while also remembering other things then I'm useless. I could be the greatest tactical mind to have ever existed, but at the end of the day that's not going to matter when I can't hit the broad side of a barn, so I'm usually contributing little to nothing to my team winning because I can't 1v1 even an unsuspecting enemy and get like 1 ult a game while feeding a lot of ults to the enemy team. Probably best to just shift tactics to trying to survive and be a distraction/slam pick Mahiroo.

chumbler
Mar 28, 2010

Mahiroo is quickly becoming my favorite suit because its bouncy grenades make me play smarter than more direct characters, and I love the beam, just give it infinite range for better useability but keep the delay so it's high risk or needs setup rather than being a snap response. It helps that Mahiroo is also just a really cool design, and people think it's weak so it's likely to get buffed so win-win.

I really like the Mahiroo. I wish the laser beam didn't lock you in place so long though, and maybe make it shoot faster or hold more grenades? But generally I really enjoy playing it. It never gets old killing people via kick who think they've won by getting close.

Putting a beam explosion right under an ice blocking zaku melee also feels good. A nice little present for them to wake up to.

Sniper, Barbatos, and Exia are the main ones that really stand out to me as problems but are all reasonably fixable. Sniper and Barbatos need to just not one shot things (though they can still get close) and Exia should probably have a bit weaker primary fire and have some damage falloff with distance. Unicorn and Pale Rider could maybe get a slight tap down but are probably mostly fine. Turn A and Guntank are bad, imo. Guntank is really fun and has a pretty strong ult, but it's too simple and its damage and defense are too low for how exposed it has to be to do it. Turn A just doesn't do enough, and I can't think of when I'd ever want it over Gundam. Everyone else feels more or less fine with a reasonably unique playstyle, though I would like to see Mahiroo's beam have its max range removed. I like it being a high risk option, but it doesn't need the short range as well.
