I've been looking forward to this episode ever since the anime was first announced, and it did not disappoint. I think this one is the best showcase for what an amazing strategist he actually is.

Yeah, it was a nice heist movie moment of showing how he planned things all along, without going so far it felt ridiculous. Also, the rap battle was much better than I was expecting after last week.

They were previously mentioned on the radio at the very start of Episode 2: "DJ: This week's pickup artist! This week's featured artist is the enigmatic idol group, Azalea. We'll give you a good taste of their cute and hyper charm!" It's a nice little bit of world building that really only makes sense once you get to this episode.

It seems pretty likely that the Nanami that Eiko just met is the same Nanami who is lead singer for Azalea. I trust Kongming figured that out already by observing a turtle or something.

The thing that doesn't make sense though is Nanami not knowing she needed a permit. If this was her regular thing to the point Kongming would have intel on it, she would know better and wouldn't need to be abiled out by Eiko.

I assumed that Kongming knew where she regularly performed on the street, so he researched local code, acquired a permit, and then called in a complaint about permitless street singers making too much noise or something to the effect. Otherwise it would be too much to just count on a couple police officers to come across Nanami while Eiko is in the area. Ya Boy Karen!

I've just finished episode 3. If Ya Boy Kongming has one issue, it's that it writes Kongming's genius in the annoying and cheaty way where he just has the script to this show. He knows everything and never gets flustered, he always has the answer inside his big billowy sleeve, and the only possible outcome of an episode is that he wins at the last second. I suppose he's a lot like Sherlock Holmes. It's fun though. Eiko's animation is fantastic and Kongming isn't irritating like Holmes.

Just as a side note, this episode is almost entirely anime-original. The manga basically montages from the 2nd day of busking to the end of her busking next episode, and doesn't do anything to really develop Kabe or the Eiko and Nanami friendship. On the whole I liked it; it was really good to give Kabe some more screen time so he feels like he's a legitimate part of the team and not just someone Kongming busts out for a strategy. And expanding on the friendship will make some later moments a lot more impactful.
