Those plush squids look exactly like the ones that have been on sale for years. I mean, hey, if you get one for free that's cool but as others have said it's one of those games that's better digital since you'll probably be hopping on to play matches over the long term, imo.

I dunno, Nintendo has been tweeting about the game for weeks on end and did some Directs specialising in Splatoon previously (just not yet on this third installment, but we're probably getting there). I'm sure the core Splatoon audience is acutely aware of the game, so I doubt the marketing team is wasting their energies on them. TV marketing is probably their main focus. I think a lot of companies have cottoned on to the fact that having long hype cycles tends not to pay off that much and can sometimes be counterproductive, they just have the occasional stream or preview thing and then ramp up in the week before a game comes out.

I wonder for what possible reason Nintendo would chose not to piss away marketing dollars advertising in August, the month where almost everyone goes on vacation and isn't paying attention to TV, games or poo poo like that...
