Is Pepe on massive wages too, I’d assume so given how big his transfer fee was?

They’re going to have to take a massive loss on him.

e: fuckin lmao there's no Souness

Yeah, good call. I was mostly going for players off the top of my head that I’d seen play/from last 25-30 years and Souness’s heyday as a leg-breaker was before I followed football.

This does prompt another good question, however - who would be the MANAGER of the Dirtiest XI…?

Souness? Mourinho? Simeone? Blackburn under Mark Hughes? Pulis? So many options.

What's especially weird to me is obviously Barça is no stranger to splashing the cash or signing big names - but this many players in the span of a +/- year, quite a few of which are coming from other big clubs and on free transfers i.e. their wages are going to be astronomical.

Like they clearly can't even pay De Jong or incredibly long-serving players/captain like Pique - how in the gently caress can they do with multiple international players?

e: getting sucked into reading through Transmarkt and among many others, lol'ing at them paying €40M for a lightly used Paulinho who Spurs had paid €12M for 2 seasons earlier as part of the Gary Bale windfall

Lingard seems… better than Nottingham Forest. What happened here

It seems to be like there have been several players this transfer window who were banking on moving on to a bigger, better club on a free for massive wages and then...nobody really jumped at landing them?

Although it's been pretty clear for awhile that Di Maria was probably heading to Juve, same with Rudiger to RM, Christensen to Barca and Bale somewhere other than England or Spain, meanwhile others like Mbappe and Dembele ended up renewing while Dybala, and Lingard all seemed to eventually end up somewhere but it wasn't quite the massive clamor to land them as expected. Pogba unsurprisingly went back to Juve but at lower wages than he was making before because neither of the big Spanish teams were really in for him as he'd hoped.

Saw a rumor that Naby Keita is unhappy and wants a move to which I say ok sure, go ahead and leave next summer on a free.

He definitely has never lived up to his hype or price tag of 1.5x Carroll's, with so many false dawns and "maybe he's finally turned the corner" then an inevitable injury or something dumb. Probably best to move him on once there's more depth in midfield.
