Why absolutely gently caress that? Seems a pretty sensible idea to me, and it's not like it's exploitative to give tourists a cheaper option. I think.

Maybe I should just take my place against the wall now, but I think the overall Airbnb experience is pretty good. Or it has been for me, anyway. You get to stay in unusual and cheap places, sometimes, and the only real function of the review system is just to weed out who the wankers are.

I've only ever stayed in someone's actual spare bedroom once, and that was really nice. It's a weird but pleasant experience to be in someone's home and to socialise with them when you've never met them before. We had a lovely chat, then left very warm reviews for each other like were in an episode of Black Mirror.

Rang my local surgery this morning at 0802 (lines open at 0800)to book an appt, and I was number 23 in the queue. And this is just to book appointments for this morning. And our surgery only has one GP.

Everything is fine.

I think for a lot of people in the south, the North basically starts wherever people have an accent which isn't just some variant of estuary English, so it can't be clearly delineated geographically.

Same applies to 'the South West' as well.

I love how Tories point at the country burning down around them, after more than a decade of them being in charge, and just say, 'this is what things would look like under Labour!'

Like, surely even their most ardent supporters can't be blind to the fact that, actually, Labour aren't in charge, and haven't been for ages?

Natwest also provide free credit checks on their app now, not sure if the other banks do.

Sorry what happened to you, Dabir, anyway. Whether or not you've been robbed, knowing that someone has violated your privacy is a gross feeling, either online or irl.

So BJ has made his plan pretty clear at G7, which is to put absolutely everything he has on being an absolute pro Ukraine hawk.

It means he can pretend to be Churchill at international conferences, hoping it will distract the world and the British public from the fash and scandals at home, and then if Ukraine wins then he can bask in reflected glory, riding that wave to the next election, and if Russia wins then he can resign and call supporting Ukraine his great misjudgement, securing his status as a martyr to freedom and democracy.

I really loving hate Captain Tom. Not for the person he was, but for all he represents as a symbol of modern Britain. Mawkish sentimentality, charity doing the job of the state, profiteering vultures, thick skulled WWII nostalgia... Ugh. Just the sight of him makes me annoyed. I'm sure this is perfectly healthy.

Is there somewhere I can cheer myself up by seeing that actually no, there are plenty of bees this year actually?

I've noticed this year that there's basically like... No bees anywhere. My garden is normally alive with them (like there's a constant hum), and this year there are none. I go on walks specifically looking for them, and there just aren't any. I know they're in decline, but this year I feel like the paranoid crazy person at the beginning of a disaster movie who eventually gets proven right.

What gets me is the fact that childcare is SO expensive, but at the same time the average childcare worker earns absolutely gently caress all, so it's unsustainable on both sides of the equation.

OTOH I picked up my daughter from her 'requires improvement' nursery the other day, and the lady who runs the business had her brand new RS4 parked outside, so perhaps it is the private sector which is to blame?! No, no it can't be.

Yeah, we're all just playing a part and hoping we don't get found out. I've spent 75% of working hours during lock down playing video games and blagging it, but have somehow managed to move jobs twice and double my salary in that time. Just be likable and amenable to people around you, make sure you look good in front of the big cheeses, and you'll be fine.

Shame your boss sounds like a dick, though. He's either trying to motivate you or underpay you (probably both). There's not much you can do about that, other than ignore it and have confidence in your worth.

I think we all agree that simply handing out gang tags for free is completely unsustainable. I propose we means test the provision of gang tags, and tender their distribution to our private public service corporate partners. This will bring the dynamism of the free market to the thread, while ensuring value for money for the tax payer.

I guess I am on the fence about the ripping huge bongs in the park thing. When I was a regular smoker, we only used bongs when we wanted to get absolutely off our heads, so I definitely understand the more negative connotations of using one in public. I guess, to use the same analogy as a previous poster, it's like the difference between drinking a pint in a Wetherspoons, and necking half a bottle of Jack Daniels in Wetherspoons.

I've only ever smoked recreationally though, so I don't really know if the same use case applies when it's medicinal.
