Does the TTRPG have much in the way of modules that Owlcat is likely to follow here? Or are they more likely to be writing their own stuff?

On Discord they mentioned that alpha is “this fall”. So maybe it’s a bit further along than I expected.

Idk I feel like they’ve emphasized your trade empire enough that there’s no way there isn’t some mini game built around it.

Yeah that's actually really cool. I like that it's a defined grid, too.

Hellbore posted:There's been two before Argenta, an Unsanctioned Psyker, Idira Tlass and your Navigator, Cassia Orsellio. There's also the Trader the player gains their commission from, Theodora von Valancius, but she's probably a tutorial companion at most. I hope they find a way to pass you the torch and keep her around (though I don’t expect it) because she looks rad

I know they were statted out in Black Crusade though. Err sorry, I meant had we need it before in regards to this game. I assumed it was around in various tabletop forms.

Was this dude known about at all before? He isn’t in the companion art montage and I don’t think I’ve seen an Inquisition companion mentioned anywhere else. Edit: nm I think he actually is in the art, he just looks noticeably different. https://twitter.com/OwlcatGames/status/1595795059387305984 Anno fucked around with this message at 16:11 on Nov 24, 2022 |

Any other sickos getting in on this? I like messing around in alphas/betas of games far off, and I’ve liked the early access periods they did for Pathfinder. It being the day after Dwarf Fortress premium isn’t ideal though. https://twitter.com/OwlcatGames/status/1598649882633535489

I’ll have an alpha key. I don’t know when I’ll get around to it with Dwarf Fortress just dropping, though. Maybe this weekend.

Yeah this game is probably 18 months away at least, and Owlcat is generally quite good at responding to feedback. They’ll probably creat new bugs or bite or more than they can chew, but they will make it a fun and good game.

They’ve already shown off a variety of in-game necron units right?

CommissarMega posted:I think it all depends on one's tolerance for the setting, honestly- I've restarted this about 4 times now, and I can definitely see myself doing further playthroughs. For those of you who played through and finished the WotR beta, did Owlcat slowly patch in the rest of the game (I understand that they didn't put in everything when that beta first came out)? Or did they just continually refine the bit of game that they did release? Not the rest of the game, no. But more than where it started (though more adding to what was there than expanding how far the game went into the story) and then mechanics changes, voice acting, etc.

I haven’t played BG3 co-op but if it’s anything like DOS2 it’s incredibly dependent on you and your co-op partner being on the same wavelength because it’s so easy for one person to gently caress something up for the other if you aren’t. Personally I didn’t even consider playing it through “normally” co-op and just enjoyed getting into crazy shenanigans trying to break various things. And for that it’s amazing.

I mean it’ll have more bugs than a lot of games but I suspect it’ll be relatively polished for an Owlcat game. Not that it really matters I’m playing it day 1 regardless ‘cause it’ll be a good game.

# ¿ Sep 14, 2023 12:56 |
I didn’t play a ton of the beta but it seemed in a better technical state than Kingmaker or Wrath. I’m hoping that the (relative) simplicity of the game in comparison helps keep bugs at least a little easier to manage.

I think I will as usual be boring and go with a leader/support type character. They seem powerful as usual and don’t look to have a lot of negative overlap with existing companions.

|
# ¿ Nov 27, 2023 18:53 |
Tune down some numbers maybe but I’m a big fan of more companions having unique mechanics that are unavailable to the player. I like that some Deadfire companions had unique subclasses for instance. Doesn’t need to be everyone but where it makes sense I wish Owlcat would do it more.

I played WotR from launch and honestly never had any serious issues. Part of it because I played slowly enough that serious things kinda got patched ahead of me, and I just lucked into not playing the paths that were worst off. But it really wasn’t that bad. RT I expect to be more polished just from how much simpler it is structurally. The beta at least seemed more complete and more stable that Wrath’s.

Owlcat did say they were improving modding capabilities for this game by a good bit compared to PF. Maybe we’ll get some fun mods like that since there are already Necron models in the game to use.

The video yesterday said failing your hit roll still does 50% damage, which seems like a fine abstraction. I’m sure there still some skill involved with using a flamethrower.

Subjunctive posted:Oh man this is on console? It’s probably going to be great on Steam Deck then, nice. That’s my hope as well. Full controller support day 1 and the more streamlined UI/character building should go a long way to making it a great Deck game.

ZearothK posted:So, how buggy is the game for people in the beta? I spent way too many years running games in this incredibly broken system to not take a bite, but this will also be my first release Owlcat. It was the most polished Owlcat beta for me, though it’s still a sprawling cRPG so you’re going to have random things crop up. I’m glad they’re doing what appear to be story/companion expansions rather than more side stories, roguelike mode etc.

Yeah it’s not out out. You can just claim the key to add it to your library now. Also stuff like the soundtrack which I can’t wait to give a listen to when I get home.

The soundtrack and art book are not without spoilers (potentially big ones) but both are great if you're okay with that. The soundtrack especially is something.

I said come in! posted:Ouch, the PC Gamer review is a 59/100. But you all are thinking they are way off the mark? It reads like a number of reviews for Owlcat’s other games. CRPGs are up there with strategy games for genres where I don’t even both with critic reviews unless it’s from someone I know actually understands and has a history with the genre.

Yeah so far I’ve found Daring to be a solid choice when I usually played Wrath a level below that. But I usually play suboptimal characters.
