The Addams Family are a goth version of rich liberals, living their best life because they have so much money they're basically not the same species\ on the same planet as the rest of us and, yes, I am jealous. The Munsters are white trash but they can afford a house in the suburbs and a hotrod. I'm still jealous.

I watched the OG Addams family sitcom and there’s an episode where Gomez gets upset because his property tax bill is too low and he thinks the governments calling his family’s house cheap. He tries to get them to raise his tax bill and runs for office out of anger when the mayor tries to lower it further to earn his vote. He’s asked his opinion on slums and says that historic neighborhoods need to be protected. And “humorously” says that demolishing a slum is like demolishing a swamp. Unthinkable! It’s loving crazy that his joke positions that no sane politician would propose are all actually really reasonable and forward-thinking policy opinions now

The scene where they're locked in the happiness cabin at camp is a wonderful. First there's the little "I'm steeling myself for what is to come" motion that Wednesday does, then it cuts to the outside and you just hear the happy, syrupy songs. Perfect.

There's a great episode of the old show where Pugsley dabling in wanting to be a boy scout and Gomez is distraught. He goes through all of the phases from confusion to disgust to blaming himself and finally around to acceptance because he loves his son no matter what. It's very wholesome, and not in that forced American exceptionalism bullshit way typical for the time period.

When I was a kid, I used to intensely fantasize that I was a member of the Addams Family. I still would love to be a part of the Addams Clan. Majorly. As in I would ponder this day in and day out sometimes because I just wished that was my life. And that was my house.

Addams Family Values really deserves to be in that Godfather Part II/ Star Trek II/ Aliens/ Empire Strikes Back/ Terminator 2 tier of greatest film sequels. Like, the first movie was solid and all the cast and elements are all there, but when all is said and done it really was a dry run for Values.

Gomez Addams is such a great character to play, I like everyone's version, even that late 90s ytv version when I was young. They brought Peter Boyle back to be Grandpa Addams for a minute I think which was also really nice.
