goddamn ive missed an in-person event

I feel like switching back to in-person was a bit premature, and it fucks everyone who benefited from the remote shows, but it's nice to see the energy

It's a charity marathon, commercialisation is something of a necessary evil for the cause of raising as much money as possible

It's also probably why the event is lighter audience-wise too, like SexRex wrote. I'd imagine a lot of people simply don't want to exposure to Covid at this point. It'll still take a while until things normalize (and IMO that's why it's good to keep the remote runs in)

Not only that but there was a strict attendance cap to mitigate risk

Rushing so quickly into going back in person definitely felt like tempting fate. And maybe I'm biased but I liked the wider variety of people who could participate in the online marathons and it wasn't just for people who can casually afford cross-country flights and week long hotel stays.

Is the FNAF game the most recent one? The one that is super broken?

They recently fixed most/all of the glitches with a patch. Which is a shame, the glitches were the fun part of the game

Ask capitalism how sustainable infinite growth is. Just be happy raising 2 million a year and knock it off.

Since it's going to lifesaving charity instead of Mike Uyama's 17th yacht or 3rd Met Gala ticket, I'm a lot more sympathetic. It does start to border on hubris though

They will probably not go into Scott Cawthon's politics, they never really bring that up in commentary

If they keep doing that the incentives are going to feel like empty bluffs and people might stop bothering to donate towards them

Flesnolk

Same, I'm also not sure how gdq pays its normal overhead and logistical costs given all the earnings from the marathons go to charity

I think inbounds was a mistake, this would be a much more fun run as basically a glitch showcase - the any% world record is like two minutes because you can just slip out of the world and wak straight to the fastest ending. And the silence just feels awkward, especially with the couch actively making fun of the game and sounding annoyed by the whole thing.

Also it's kinda funny that the crowd is so dead for a game that was gated behind such a big incentive

Maybe I'm zoning out but it doesn't seem like they're reacting to anything at all, except the occasional one dude or so cheering in the distance

Flesnolk
Apr 11, 2012
Oh yeah, it's not unwatchably awful, except maybe how obnoxously bright it is. It's just a big letdown after all the hype and I feel like it's letting the air out of the room. And yeah, what Agent said - though I've seen this game be pretty entertaining on twitch so I do think the runner and couch could stand to step it up a bit.

And Enigma going full WWE promo mode is inevitably going to be a big contrast with Ace taking more of an informative approach. Though I appreciate the effort to fill people in on what's going on, because high level speedruns can feel a bit inscrutable at times
