I don't even follow F1 but stumbled across the death of Tom Pryce in a Wikipedia wormhole and it's one that sticks with you.

He - through no fault of his own - took a fire extinguisher to the dome at 170mph. The extinguisher flew over the grandstand and damaged a car in the parking lot.

The unfortunate race marshal who was holding the fire extinguisher had to be identified by process of elimination.

It's chilling to me to imagine that that could easily be a string of tracers instead of fireworks.

Roofs are a bit different because age is a big factor. Older the roof, the less they pay out, but a year old one would be bought out in whole.

Put a metal roof on and watch your rate drop. Cheaper to replace, longer warranties, higher general durability outside of hail, but noisy as gently caress in the driving rain.

I mean, I kinda equate this level of stupidity to drunk driving. An insurer isn't going to cover your rear end if you DUI your car into a pole at 0.2 on the breathalyzer. If you're operating outside the boundaries of what is expected of you, that's on your rear end, and they'll gladly get a judgement against you after paying out everyone else first.

While I agree with you in cases of stupid is as stupid does, or gently caress around and find out (lets watch the fireworks from 5 feet away instead of 50???) the problem is:

Insurance is all too fuckin happy to take your money, and then will fight tooth and goddamn nail to have to keep from paying any of it back. They are the singular epitome of useless, value extracting middle-men who add nothing to the greater economy. gently caress em.

You're right, they're loving leeches.

Maybe some regulation of the insurance companies is in order.

Lol.

I've legit had to go to the State AG's office and file complaints a couple times to get insurance kicked into gear. It's such a pain in the rear end.

This is happening in Florida too.

The industry should be nationalized and flattened out but lol that will never happen, just like health care.

Are they realizing that its easier to just not sell any insurance than it is to deny a bunch of hurricane/flood/weather disaster claims?

I'm not going to go into specifics here for the sake of protecting my own background, but last week, I was working with someone who has been in law enforcement for a long time, and the topic of the Uvalde response came up. I got the pure, unadulterated copaganda excuse as to why all the cops didn't immediately breach the classroom- it was because law enforcement, reacting to the perception that "they've killed too many people" :psyduck:, has now adopted a conservative stance on use of force, and when they arrived on scene after no shots had been fired, they moved to a barricaded suspect response (hang back, negotiate, use force as a last resort) as opposed to active shooter response (throw anything you have at the shooter, stop the killing/stop the dying) because that was the new protocol. As if anyone- black, white, pink, blue, orange, Republican, Democrat, Trotskyite, etc- would shed a tear if someone who was deliberately killing kids got loving canoed.

She said this with a straight face, despite the release of that godawful video of like eight cops absolutely magdumping into a Black man earlier the week before.

So, America, you're welcome. Because you let Antifa defund the police, it hurt their feelings and made them feel bad and that's why children died.

I sincerely wish that the next time anyone LEO-adjacent calls someone a snowflake, the cognitive dissonance makes their head loving explode ala Scanners.

Maybe RyanAir really is that bad compared to the others, but I'm not sure y'all are using the Euro budget airlines right. They're not good for long flights, traveling with family, or really doing anything serious. But if you want to gently caress off to somewhere for a long weekend that's within a couple hours on a plane, it's nice to be able to do that for ~$100 - it's a party bus. Don't take a big bag, drop any expectations, you'll still (probably) get there.

Last time I took a Saturday evening EasyJet flight from Barcelona to Nice, most of the plane was pregaming for that evening while the flight attendants were leading party games. Carry-on size limits or limited seat pitch did not come up.

Like, quick, cheap short haul "ascend and immediately descend" flights are great for long weekends like you say, but they are definitely a fuckin problem. Not as wasteful as musk or the like and their 14 minute private flights, but they've right up there.
