This worked especially great at airport bars when traveling to/from a conference. Airport prices are so jacked up that it's really easy to disguise a few beers as an entree.

Always use 100.00% of every per diem you can. Also sometimes we could talk the department to kick in some money for travel expenses, which was basically free money to promptly spend at local microbreweries with non-obvious names.
