If Slaffy does go first, the Devils will have an interesting position. They really need a winger like him or a winger in general. I wonder if they'd think about trading down and getting an asset out of it, or just go with the top 3 down the middle and build around that.

if they don't take Wright they're loving nuts imo

I'm probably just ignorant at how good he is compared to someone like Cooley or other top 5 guys. It'll be pretty interesting to have 3 really young really good (if Wright pans out) centers who are very well cost-controlled.

I'm totally down with Nemec. Hell yeah to have Hughes/Nemec in the pipeline on defense now

Coming down from being pissed about Slaffy, but I am really happy with Nemec.

I'm fine with Nemec. I probably would have been fine with like Nemec/Wright/Slaf/Cooley. Jiricek seemed like a bit of a reach.

Jiricek can't really skate and I don't know how that translates to the NHL.

Nemec/Mukhamadullin/Hughes in the D pipeline is nice.

Oof, it’s a canned response but boy the Kaprizov situation does not sound good.

No matter how good or bad the situation is, it is very sensitive and subject to change. It's a bad idea to publicly divulge information about it and he made the right call by zipping up.

Is there any chance Nemec plays this upcoming season? I wanted Slafkovsky but I think I'm happier with Nemec than a midget center.

I would expect them to give him a year in the A, but I do think they will also allow him to compete in camp for a bottom-pair spot and he could win it. Ty Smith seems like trade bait/on the way out/replaceable. I'm excited for the Devils' young guys now and I hope Nemec can make it next year, and I really hope Alex Holtz plays well in his time up.

I know it's felt like "this is the year they elevate themselves" a couple of times, but it really does feel that way over the next year or two. Fitzgerald has been really good as GM, the Devils have zero bad contracts, a good bunch of impact prospects/really young players, and a ton of cap space to go after a very good class of available free agents.

Goaltending is voodoo but if Kuemper isn't horribly long-term I would love to see them get him.

Don't even mention Ty Smith. Hopefully they develop this dude differently/better.

Sorry, it's just that I was high on Smith. Unfortunately he is defensively a train-wreck and not good enough offensively to nearly make up for it.

Post the Devils unless you have me on ignore lol

New Jersey adding a true top-flight defense prospect in Simon Nemec, someone they can envision running their power play one day. They also added Seamus Casey, who I think will play games on their back-end. Only two picks in the top 102 prevents this class from being overly deep, and it will likely come down to just how good Nemec can be. Currently the answer to that, I think, is a legit top-of-the-lineup guy.

What are some examples people consider to be most succesful single draft years for a team?

Preferably in the sense of getting the most value out of --as many as possible of-- their own picks, not just picking one superstar player - even if those might be more useful than 7 good picks from another team in the same year.
