I've started trying to "get into" jazz in parallel with learning piano. I don't "get it" by jazzhead standards but I'm enjoying it. Things I'm liking right now: Bill Evans, all of it basically Miles Davis - everything again, but especially Sketches of Spain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38zRx9AYDHQ Chick Corea and Return to Forever - Light as a Feather https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbynfCYDfuI Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6NRfitSCxw&t=455s Sarah Vaughan - Live at Birdland https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t174pooeiG0 T-SQUARE - Blue in Red https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQuD3rN1Y44 (heavy nostalgia for the N64 generation) I don't know if you would call this jazz funk or straight funk, but Tokyo Groove Joshi is fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3K8dNctci1Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CH3XhtHdsj4 reversefungi posted:Live from Emmet's place is an awesome stream/YT/etc. led by Emmet Cohen, who brings on some awesome artists both obscure and internationally renown to play standards. I think it was first started during the beginning of COVID and quickly took off. You can pretty much click on any performance and it's guaranteed to be awesome. This is one of my favorites, which I think is also their most popular video, featuring the incredible Patrick Bartley with one of my all time favorite modern alto sax solos. I've probably watched this more than a dozen times at this point: Emmet's place introduced me to Cyrille Aimee, who is outstanding. And Cory Henry is insane.

Adam Neely mad a cool video (really more of a documentary) about video game music and jazz more specifically. It's pretty neat. Not super deep into music theory or anything, it's mostly about the scene and cultural impact. https://youtu.be/oKWgLe-jQjc

drat. I was just starting to get into him and was amazed that he was still around. Bought At the Pershing a while back but didn't get around to it right away. I'm also digging Chamber Music of the New Jazz. We're gonna run out of these guys sooner rather than later
