These are great, and not surprising they're all 2D. I still haven't seen a fighter with 3D backgrounds that are as pleasing to the eye as 2D fighters.

Pixel art backgrounds are the legit best, I love all of the ones from MVC1 and Third Strike, but something is to be said about SNKs work in this regard.

It's not fighting games, but since we're in the middle of appreciating pixel art, do yourself a favor and look up the works of Mark J. Ferrari. He also has a really interesting website where you can look at a ton of his meticulously animated illustrations and speed them up, slow them down, view them with sound matching the imagery, and see exactly how the palette cycling he did so beautifully was created for each image. Links are here and here.

This is real. Yep, they somehow managed to port SF2 to the commodore 64 when most people were playing it at home on the SNES or Genesis/Megadrive. https://www.c64-wiki.com/wiki/Street_Fighter_II quote:The controls suffer mainly because there is only one fire button instead of six available.
