Is it true that the camera on the pixel is deliberately made worse over the life of that pixel generation? Like, it starts off good, but then through updates the picture quality gets worse?

I threw away my Samsung Phone when something called Smart Home or Smart Connect or something wouldn't shut the gently caress up giving me notifications. It's the app that's supposed to be the central phone hub for your Samsung Smart Toaster and Samsung Smart Recliner and Samsung Smart Bidet and whatever other IOT things they invented. If you don't own any of that crap, the app sends you twelve notifications a day to let you know that it's still looking for IOT things. You couldn't turn off those notifications nor could you uninstall the app. gently caress that.

My first smartphone ever was Galaxy 1, which was great. For a while I kept to that line, until finally they did some sort of update that meant that whenever I plugged in headphones, it would automatically start up and play Samsung music. I didn't actually have any music stored in there because why the gently caress would I, so I'd be treated to preloaded musak. Absolutely baffling design. Then I tried a pixel which was ok but has the worst fingerprint sensor known to man, and looks like they still haven't fixed it. That fairphone linked earlier is tempting just for something that doesn't have a load of garbage bloatware. Or maybe an Xperia, I've not heard anything bad about them... yet.

I don't really want a phone anymore, I just want a standalone pocket computer with internet access. Text and email is more important than voice calling/west jet/robot voice speaking Chinese.

CJacobs posted:Samsung's voicemail app is stupid. It serves you ads unless you pay, and if you delete it you have to use the really old school method of calling your own phone no. to check your voicemail, no replacement generic android app. I had to get Google Voice because screw that it's 2022. Wtf? Guess I'm sticking with Apple

Oh man. Yesterday I learned that I might be able to buy a used samsung from a friend's dad because it's pretty much the only smartphone I can afford except for the absolutely cheapest model on the market, but that idea suddenly seems less appealing now. I MUST buy one however, because I'm not allowed to participate in society without one anymore.

Hack the galaxy, Captain Picard: - - - - Episode script 1: Picard is annoyed that the datapads now require a 30 second ad video before working in a crisis situation, because Starfleet refused to pay for a subscription on principle. He delivers an eloquent speech: "It's a disgrace. In a crisis situation, every second counts. And yet, we're expected to sit through a 30 second commercial before we can even access our datapads. It's a waste of time, and it's a waste of resources. "Starfleet is supposed to be about exploration, about pushing boundaries and discovering new things. But instead, we're bogged down by bureaucracy and red tape. We're told that we can't have a subscription on our datapads because Starfleet doesn't want to pay for it. "Well, I say that's a disgrace. We should be pushing boundaries, not being held back by petty penny-pinching. We deserve better, and I for one am not going to stand for it." - Episode 2 script: Picard's Solution: Picard comes up with a solution to the datapad issue. He creates a subsection on the datapads that can be accessed without having to watch a commercial. He then makes a video explaining his solution and posts it on the internet. The video quickly goes viral, and Picard becomes a minor celebrity. He is interviewed by several news outlets, and his solution is lauded by many. However, not everyone is happy with Picard's solution. Some people argue that it is a violation of their right to privacy, and that it should be up to the individual to decide whether or not to watch a commercial. Others argue that Picard's solution is simply a Band-Aid solution, and that the real issue is the fact that Starfleet doesn't want to pay for a subscription on the datapads. Picard remains unapologetic, and continues to argue that his solution is the best possible option under the circumstances.
