2001 hands down.

The console war went nuclear:
  • PS2 finally started punching its weight
  • Gamecube and Xbox were released.
  • Gameboy Advance was release in japan.

On the PC gaming side we saw Windows XP getting release which was a huge deal.

The games released would reshape gaming into what we know it as today (for better or worse). I mean this list alone should seal the deal for 2001.

  • Halo: Combat Evolved
  • Max Payne
  • Silent Hill 2
  • Final Fantasy X
  • Tribes 2
  • Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal
  • Ico
  • Dark Age of Camelot
