exceptionally 70s cricketer Jim Foat kinda fits in the hall of names as well

since he was a non-bowling specialist #7 who averaged about 15 with the bat and was nicknamed 'Photo' (imagine how his most common score looked in the scorecard). gun fielder tho

What is a non-bowling specialist #7 in cricket? I can imagine that it is similar to a reserve infielder or backup catcher?

It's a position where you have to play some guy but he's dogshit at everything.

:swoon: MURALI :swoon:

1-6 are full batsmen and 8-11 are specialist bowlers so 7 is generally penciled in as your all-rounder (does 2 things out of bowl/bat/wicketkeep) spot. He doesn't bowl so he's too low down and his average is well below half what you'd want from a specialist bat. So basically he's a crap player that messes up your team balance.

yep. he got picked for around 200 county games on the strength of his fielding and sledging (catches/run-outs/etc and winding people up). and dropped permanently after the first season he’d averaged >30 with the bat. Jim Icarus

Modern day digital cameras are excellent at adjusting the recording parameters for all sorts of different conditions. Film cameras from 60 or so years ago were nowhere near as user friendly. They required a steady hand and a knowledgeable photographer to get the most out of the equipment. Jan Stenerud's photographer that day wasn't quite so dialed in.

As a Cardinals fan I can't believe this thread and myself have overlooked team legend Willie McGee

most famous for winning MVP in 1985 in one of the most outlier seasons ever, even though the award should easily have gone to Doc Gooden
