Still probably the best TV show ever created.

Jim Henson walked so that Vernon Chatman could fly, or something.

Dunno why my mobile poo poo refuses to link anything, but the show was simply called the muppets. from 2015. Yep, lowercase title and with the period just like that. It was a 30 Rock style show with the cast working on a late night show with Miss Piggy as the host, and Kermit was seeing a younger and more slender pig that I think was an associate on the show or something.

It was real bad.
Ok Thank you

It sounds like it could have been incredible but was instead just bad

I was in a relationship with someone long ago who worked at the Muppet workshop, where she made costumes for the Sesame Street stage show. They admired her craftsmanship, but she worked very slowly so the ended up firing her.

Her apartment was haunted by the ghost of a midwife who would break dishes every time the song Lightning Crashes by Live came on the radio. She was terrified of the woods, lest she be possessed by a wendigo. I'm no expert, but I think the lore dictates that means she dabbled in cannibalism at some point, but that seems really unlikely in my opinion.

One time her roommate came home and found her wearing a full Sherlock Holmes costume, investigating their apartment with a magnifying glass. She wouldn't break character for a very long time, to the point where the roommate called me crying and saying she couldn't handle her anymore.

Anyway, we were talking about Muppets. Uhhh they're fine I guess. My oldest kid really liked Elmo when he was little.

A potential muppet "hot take"

I am one of the maybe 3 people on this planet that doesn't like Muppet Christmas Carol or Muppet Treasure Island. Although, in it's defense, I have only made one attempt to watch Treasure Island, but couldn't make it more than 20 minutes in before I realized it was poo poo. And again, I reckon that both of those films only seem poo poo due to comparison to the purity and brilliance of The Muppet Movie, and to a lesser extend Great Muppet Caper.

Some colder, more acceptable takes:

I really like Kermit's pre Muppet show Sesame St. character of intrepid reporter in a trenchcoat. He is a great "straight man" to the insanity going on all around him.
The 2nd modern Muppet movie was pretty poo poo, but the interrogation song is a huge banger.
I don't like that Gonzo is canonically an alien. I liked it better when he was just a weirdo.

A potentially homophobic/transphobic take:

In my 'headcanon', (as the kids call it), I always vacillate between thinking that Miss Piggy is a drag queen, a trans woman/pig, or an aging Diva. (Of course she could be all 3 at the same time with no issues.)

Which leads to a petty take:

My petty pedantic issue with Muppet Babies is that it makes Kermit and Piggy the same age, when Piggy is clearly much older/experienced than him. I would also posit that Fozzy is much older too, (his outdated vaudevillian style, and hackneyed old man/dad jokes.) And by the same logic, Gonzo is just an exciteable kid, younger and weirder than the rest of them.

Miss Piggy's original hook was "truck driver wanting to be a woman" so you are just vibing on the character as presented. That hook is transphobic as poo poo. So, we are left with you either "correctly seeing the character as presented" or "viewing the character through the same transphobic lens they were created in". That's a nuanced discussion. I'll let you do your own soul searching on that one, I figure you know you better than I do.

I've never been a huge Muppets fan, not to say I don't like them I've just not seen most of their work outside of clips here and there. I did go to see the 2011(?) Muppets movie in theatres with my best friend though, and we each took like 3G of shrooms right before. Hadn't eaten dinner so we came up within minutes and were flying for the opening credits. It was family night at the theatre so we were surrounded by kids and their moms, it was so nerve-wracking to be that high. There was a trailer for a Miyazaki adaptation of 'The Borrowers' and I was thisclose to turning to my buddy and going "I can't handle muppets right now" but we stuck it out and it was awesome.

When they did the 'muppet man' gag I lost my mind:

Here's another hot take - I liked the Office-style The Muppets until they hosed with the format and switched away from the more adult humor. It was fun seeing old beloved characters in a new light.

This made me feel a little sad. It's almost like the scene from the 2011 Muppets movie where Fozzie plays the same song with the Moppets cover band.

the quote I've always seen from Oz is "a truck driver trying to be a lady", which is a bit of a different connotation from trying to be a woman. the wikipedia page doesn't have a source so I have no idea if he's said woman on other occasions or if a wiki editor was sloppy (or malicious)

I am a complete and total poo poo-for-brains dumbass who only recently realized Miss Piggy had curly hair in The Muppets Take Manhattan to update her looks to the 1980s. I always associated her with long hair and never noticed it until I watched the movie again a few years ago. TMTM was the first Muppet movie I saw in theaters at the age of 4 and it was a loving magical experience.

Would you like to hear a really depressing Sesame Street story?

I wasn't a kid when Sesame Place became a thing, but we did have Sesame Street Live. They were performing at the Boston Garden and my parents took my brother and I to see it. We took the train in to Boston. On the way in, the train was stopped....because a dude killed himself by getting in front of the train.

The train was literally filled with kids all going to see Sesame Street so they radioed in to the Garden to have them delay the start of the show until all the kids arrived.
