Not whatsoever! And it sits in my old cd wallet for exactly the In Case of Emergencies reason you posted, untouched unless I need it. There are a variety of reasons I also would not use my cell phone for any size or scale of deployment.

So the situation I posted was that my computer, notably without an internet connection, needed a file that I could only get on the internet to restore the internet connection. How did you get this file onto the thumb drive? You see I downloaded it onto my phone and transferred it with a simple usb cable, as the phone’s memory functions as a simple flash drive and should be able to be used as such. Surprisingly effective in odd situations and arguably a huge benefit of having a handheld internet connected device around. However! Surprisingly! You can not use such a basic feature on the phone the phone I currently have, as it is an iPhone, and that seems bad imo.

This sounds like an obscure situation but really it comes up a lot for me, like say in the reverse I want to email a file on my computer but I’m in the field where I do not have WiFi, in the past I would transfer the file to my phone then email it from my phone, now to obtain to same functionality I have to pay 20/mo for a hotspot where I just give the computer internet from my phone. It’s not a ton of money or anything but every time I use the feature it just reminds me that there was previously a free way to do this but now it costs money because they intentionally restricted features that should be native.

Don’t get me wrong there’s parts of the phone I like in the time I’ve had it, just as a p objective review of “person who previously didn’t use apple products much but was offered a free top of the line one to use for a couple years” my opinion is that even for free I’d rather just spend money next time to have one that didn’t arbitrarily handicap itself for seemingly no reason. It’s not frequent apple restrictions really get in my way but when they do it’s obvious and I can’t help but notice that “my previous LG phone, which was bare bones and cost 120$ could do this, yet this 1000$ phone can not”.

If you hate Android bloatware or bullshit that seems impossible to remove, download ADB AppControl and use it to delete all those apps on day one. I bought a used fully unlocked phone that had some carrier bloat baked into it, but the ADB software took care of those apps within minutes after installing it on my PC.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/tool-adb-appcontrol-1-7-5-ultimate-app-manager-debloat-tool-tweaks.4147837/

I was on the verge of buying on of those Sony Xperias because they have all the classic features I think are cool: SD card storage, notification LED, and headphone jack. However, it seems they can't connect to any service band in the US, so the phone would be DOA. If I move back to Asia soon, I'll probably get one.

I put music on my phone and I'm less than 90 years old. I'm also not a corporate-addled consumerist. If I want to hear ads mixed into music I didn't specifically pick I can just turn on the radio.

All phones should come with 500GB storage as standard, headphone jacks, and expandable storage. There is absolutely no utilitarian reason why these features are not found in phones anymore. Each of these parts would cost these corporations pennis on the dollar and result in, what, a 3mm wider phone? I'm LOLing that Apple is selling the iPhone 12 with 64GB of storage (like 30GB after OS and apps) for $700. I'm hoping my Note 9 lasts another 3-4 years, since even Samsung has also gone the way of the greedy dumbass and took away expandable storage. I like that ever iteration of modern phones boasts new cameras and processors, but doesn't offer space for more than a couple minutes of using that 8K 120 FPS camera mode when on holiday.

:actually: Getting rid of those things makes it easier to waterproof the phones and increase structural integrity. Well, not the internal storage limits - those do seem way more arbitrary - that is something that both Android and Apple are guilty of.

The iPhone Lightning port is loving stupid, though.
